Post Match Thread: City vs Spurs

I think Arsenal will. Sanchez will be the difference.

We have the best squad by far, and here we are in 4th place. Injuries have been a killer, but we have been managed remarkably badly I feel
Without doubt this season has been a missed opportunity. Today I think we were genuinely unlucky but over the course of the season we don't deserve to be challenging for the title. Yes injuries have played a part but the manager has to take full responsibility for consistently poor team selections and tactics. The tempo has been poor and the players have not worked hard enough. Leicester and Spurs both want it more than us.

Just seen the highlights on Match of the Day.

Seriously feel like I'm going to blow a blood vessel watching that.

Never felt angrier watching a referee in my life.

Don't know what it is about this poor run of form in particular but it is infuriating. Every single week another player gets a long term muscle injury. Every single week we are being denied clear cut decisions. Every single week our opponents are benefiting from scandalous decisions. It is unfeasible. It is unprecedented. It is the unluckiest period I can remember any club ever going through. It is ridiculous.

Every week the pundits are watching us get fucked over and say "it will even itself out". When? We only have 12 games left and so far we are owed about 20 penalties.

Just seeing red at the minute when I think of the injustice.

This all day long mate.
The only decision I can think off going in our favour in the league is the DeMichelis non sending off vs West Ham ( even then I think it was a correct decision not to send him off but I could have understood it had the ref given it).
Against that you have the two diabolical offside Spurs goals earlier in the season, the penalty not given against Aguero -Leicester away, the two penalties not given against Leicester at home (Zab foul on the line) and the shove on Fernandinho in the box largely ignored by the media and the worst refereeing decision I have ever seen not to give the penalty against Stirling by Roger East against Everton and then today the diabolical Clattenburg penalty.
Despite our shit form you know what, if the correct decisions are given re the above we are top by about three points, even at 50% we are level.
Fcuking infuriating.

And yet given just given 50% of the CLEAR refereeing decisions that should have gone in our favour we would have been top.
So we do "deserve to be challenging", as you appear to be denying us.

Five hours later and I'm still pissed off. Firstly with that bent clown in the middle. Or is he just useless? And were his assistants the same ones who fucked us over at WHL?
And then there's City. Two seasons ago we beat Spuds 6-0 and 5-1, last season we beat them 4-1 and 1-0, but now we're annoyed about missing out on a point ffs. The game at WHL was different in that we were in control until that aberration, but today we didn't get going until we were behind. And while it might be OK doing that against Newcastle and Watford it's hardly a good idea against a team in the top four. I'll accept Kane is a good find and Pochetino is better than Tim Sherwood, but being happy that we might have drawn is not a good sign. We've clearly regressed over the last couple of years and have to arrest the slide.
We can still win four pots of course, but we could also carry on sliding. I'd love Pellers to go out with a trophy or two but I can't see it happening.
We caught up 8 points on the rags with five to play, but this time we have to hope three teams slip up. - Can they all sign Gerrard on loan and keep swapping him?

Worst thing Pellegrini did today was taking Clichy off and going for a win rather than protecting the point first.

Both his substitutions were baffling. A combination of a bent / shit ref and a clueless manager cost us the game

Even with an improved performance today Pellegrini still showed a complete lack of faith in his bench. Silva had a really quiet second half and is probably still injured so why not bring Celina on for 10 minutes at 1-1? Why take Clichy off when he's attacking and defending well? Especially for Kolarov who did nothing at all.

It has become pointless bemoaning how shite a manager pellegrini is. He's a joke his record against the top six this season is embarrassing. However most worrying of all is this for me:

Top four is currently only safe because utd are shit.

Mp inherited a great team dismantled it and with the help of whoever bought millions of pounds of shite whilst taking every player backwards as footballers and a team.

The squad and mentality he is handing over to guardiola is in so much need of an overhaul in terms of fitness mentality everything it's a huge job and one that won't be as easy as many on here hope.

Thanks manuel.

when oh when oh when will Pellers actually give the order to CLOSE DOWN the opposition. Right from his arrival, he insists on giving the opposition all the space in the world. Everyone stands off, appearing to wait for a mistake from the opposition rather than instantly getting close whenever they have the ball. So many times today, when Silva had the ball, there were as many as 4 if not 5 people all over him like a rash. Pellers is clearly not going to change his tactics or philosophy now, but he should take the gloves off now and throw caution to the wind now.
Having said that, had a few quid on us at 8/1 to win the league. Can still do it!!

Too many comments about a shit ref decision when the team only decided to play and give it their all when 1-0 down. Yaya, Aguero and Silva all disappointed with Sterling being our best attacking player. Not sure if Clichy was carrying an injury but an awful decision to take him off.

The statistics about our performances are abysmal this season, these are all inexcusable:

- First 9 games - 21 points
Next 17 games - 26 points.

- Record against teams currently in the Top 8 (W1 D3 L6) 6 points from a possible 30
- Ongoing 4 months since we last won back to back league games
- Went 3 months without an away win in the league
- Lost consecutive home games for the first time in 7 years.

The pressing is an issue. We clearly don't train that way because as a unit we don't get up and down the pitch as one.

What perplexes me, and it really does, is how a team that doesn't press a back 4 can be played through so easily. There were periods in the game today, and it kept happening, where Tottenham were playing inbetween our lines and bypassing us. They were attacking our back 4 within 3 passes from there fucking CB. It's as though we choose to press at the wrong time and we do it individually not as a team. So Fernando does the press but Fernandinho couldn't be arsed.

There was a particular instance in the first half where Toure and Fernandinho were about a second behind a 50/50. By the time they got there they'd lost the 2nd ball and Eriksen was on top of our back 4. That was a bouncing ball in the middle of the park. I couldn't believe it. It is such a simple thing.

It's dysfunctional and dysfunctional has become a common trait in this team. I can't believe how far we have regressed after strengthening and spending so much.

That lies squarely at the door of the manager.

And there are more I bet.

All these little stats have crept in under Manuel. He's a decent human being but a very ordinary manager, and it's starting to show.

I remember when the etihad was a fucking fortress. He's turned a title winning team into a group of fannys

I'm sure someone like mosside blue will put a positive spin on those stats mate

1. Why do we get into gear only when we go behind? Always slow and pedantic from the kick off, we never start fast and controlling anymore against teams, like there's no hunger.

2. Why substitute Clichy who was arguably one of the solid and best players on the day for Kolarov who was complete shite last week and had no impact this week.

3. Why was Silva starting on the right? Why cant he stay in position? Why cant Yaya stay in his position for the 2nd goal? Why cant Otamendi stay in his position for the 2nd goal and other occasions when he is tackling in a midfielders position? Creating massive holes in the pitch that teams exploit.

4. Has Pellegrini actually improved a player since he came?

5. Clattenburg = Knob?

All in all, we looked better with Fernando and Fernandinho holding and Yaya as a #10, but then that pushes Silva out to where he doesnt want to be so we had 2 numbers 10's and nothing on the right. If we player with Yaya as the #10, why the hell is a right footed Sterling playing on the left and a left footed Silva playing on the right, effectively nulling each player. Seen more from Sterling on the right in one half than I have seen him do on the left all season.

Pellegrini makes the stupidest decisions before and during games.I'm glad its his last season and the end cant come quick enough for me. Just hope we win a trophy this season for a bit of dignity. Wont be the FA Cup, wont be the league, wont be the Chumps League.
