If he'd hung around, rather than go to the Evening Standard, he'd have been PM before this month was out.
Yes and he's yet anther case of a politician, who we trust to run our country, showing a singular lack of judgement when everything was at stake. Had he been less strident during the Brexit campaign he might well have been PM instead of May. Even if he was too closely associated with Cameron to do that, he'd perhaps gone to the Foreign Office under May and be in a perfect position to unseat her now.

Been having a few thoughts on the election today. Criticise at will.
  • May called this election to give her some breathing room from the RWNJ's in her own party and presumably negotiate a softer Brexit than some might have wanted. but now she's completely at their mercy. It's not the DUP she should be worried about now but her own backbenchers. Just half-a-dozen of them can bring her down. And they will if necessary.
  • Her front-bench will be plotting behind her back and positioning themselves for the inevitable leadership battle.
  • The Conservative party conference will be entertaining this autumn.
  • There was clearly a lot of love for the Labour manifesto, Corbyn's campaign but maybe not for Corbyn himself. Before it he was seen by many (me included) as a bumbling, uncharismatic, poor communicator and leader. But he's proved to be great success on the campaign trail and should build on that. But it's still him and I suspect many won't entertain the thought of voting for him. Now UKIP's out of the way and it's a straight fight between Labour and the Tories, he needs that extra push to win a subsequent election. If I were him, now he's unassailable I'd be thinking about establishing a younger successor who believes in the policies, can put them across but isn't him.

Just been to a funeral and just seen May speech after meeting the Queen.

Conservative and unionist party! When was that created.

Love seeing big headed ministers losing their seats. Sign on with hope in your hearts

Jeremy Corbyn

Power to the people, comrade.

Look, I got banned for engaging with your idiocy and I'm not falling for it again. I've no idea how old you are or how well read but Corbyn is to the right of many mainstream social democrats on the continent, and with the exception of Trident he is to the right of Harold Wilson. It's only the media that has him down as some uber communist but you seem to lap that crap up with relish.

In response to Damocles.

NO. Could I remind you that you introduced the concept of richer and poorer. I replied to your question, something that you historically jump on posters for not doing. I gave you an example to illustrate the answer. You gave nothing (as usual) in return other than your own brilliance (as usual) and I am not stupid enough to fall into your crass attempt at entrapment. No wonder so many on her think you are an egotistical individual.

I didn't vote for May. I voted for the Conservatives. She's dead in the water, the party is not.
The post i replied to was talking about may. Either way its a mess for the tories and a long way short of expectations. Apparently she was the strong and stable option as well....

Yes, but sometimes it needs to repeating because certain folk don't get it.

There have been two labour leader elections in the last two years, Corbyn won both by a landslide. That is a fact. You might think that's political suicide but you cannot re-invent facts and it is a stone cold fact that the party has wholeheartedly rejected Blairism on two separate occasions, it is as simple as that. Blairism is done, gone, it's not coming back.
TFFT !!!

Oh for god's sake, you've said it again. Give it up man. We understand your opinion. You may be right, OR NOT.

If Corbyn stays for a 3rd time and loses again, things may change. Hell, how old is he? 70-odd?

You have an opinion that may be right. Please stop trying to tell people it's fact, when it is simply your opinion.

Two leadership elections won and a general election where Labour gained an additional 30 seats and 41% share of the vote are facts.

Ive already said I think she will step down once the negotiations are in full flow.

Or lulled? After the initial setting out of positions and posturing, there'll be a Mexican stand off. The German elections are on 24th Sept so nothing will happen leading up to it. They'll probably replace her early in September, allowing the new PM something of a relaunch at the party conference at the beginning of October. It might be earlier if its obvious she's lost all authority in parliament but I think they'll hope that she can limp along for 3 months.

Going back to serious politics now

Who would win a fight ?

Tim Farron with no arms, Corbyn with no legs or Paul Nuttals with one arm and one leg ?

The only time he ever faced a national audience he lost by nearly 60 seats to a woman who looks like Skeletor and had a manifesto that promised to steal food from children and sell old people's houses to pay for their crap nursing home .

That's a fact too.

How lovely for you and your friends.

But Jim Smith is still on £40 a week today as he was yesterday and you've done absolutely nothing to help him.

You're interested in ideological battles. I'm interested in helping poor people. That's the key difference between our positions.

You don't seem to realise that this will highly likely force another election in 6 months. Those people that didn't believe that things can change will get on board, INCLUDING the MPs that deserted Corbyn, even if it's the means to get back in and try to oust him further down the line.

This can and will make Labour stronger with the returning tide.

The Jim Smiths of this country will be helped, if you and the other doubters, help too.

The scent of electoral victory will likely return some errant Labour politicians closer to the leadership, and that wider front could be attractive to voters. Whether the scent of electoral defeat can refocus the Conservatives is another question.

Yes it is.

Where we get in to realms of speculation is whether Yvette Cooper or Andy Burnham would have done any better.

Notwithstanding her lack of any discernible ability, I still cannot believe she said that. It was absurdly transparent - and she's going to head up the Brexit negotiations! It's like some sort of elaborate wind-up.
