Problem with 'new' fans

When I had to suffer the ignominy of visiting Maccklesfield for a competitive league game or watching us lose to Lincoln, no one told me it was possible to change teams and go and support someone else.

I was born a City fan, I will die a City fan. No matter what happens in between.

So anyone who chooses to be a City fan, whatever their reason, can fuck right off as far as i'm concerned. I don't want you anywhere near my club.

It's all playground stuff this.

If we are attracting new fans we are doing well and that's all I care about.

But I don't believe we have had a significant influx of new fans yet.

Spot on..I think we have gathered interest from lots of people mainly from countries where our players hail from but no real influx in this Country so to speak...will happen though, but not yet.

I've been at matches next to lads who ain't from around here, southern accent etc but have sang their hearts out for 90mins in support of the club... and on many occasions sat next to manc sounding lads who have just sat there moaning and whinging about everything and anything - even in games were we have just demolished teams.

Give me an "out of towner" who is there to support the club even when in times of losing over some whinging **** who thinks he has a right to support the club because of the hospital his Mam broke her waters in.

As for this "local club" crap - my local club is Tottington utd, the nearest professional club is Bury.
So I should go and support one of these clubs now eh?

Only issue I have is with the influx of "new" fans is tickets becoming more expensive, pricing the likes of myself out of the game :(
Maybe then I will have to change my allegiance to Bury??

Come to think of it, my original ST at Eastlands was right behind a brummie City fan, kept shouting "come on citoi" (thick brummie accent). Did my head in. I moved.

I was born and bred in County Donegal and have been a City fan for over 20 years. Why? Well, it's simple. 2 reasons. Number one - my mother (also born and bred in Donegal) lived in Moss Side for a few years in her teenage years. Number two - I have an Uncle and Aunt who emigrated from Donegal over 50 years ago and have lived in Moss Side for nearly all that time - they still live there. Their kids, now all adults, are all City fans. I went over to spend a couple of weeks with them when I was about 12 years old and they took me up to Maine Road - I've been a City fan ever since. I also support my local League of Ireland side, Finn Harps, here in Donegal, but I also consider myself to be a City fan too. Granted, I don't live in Manchester and don't ever think I will. I don't get to see City play 'live' that often - I get over about two or three times a season - but I still class myself a City fan. Is it wrong?

Its debatable how many of the "additional" fans are genuinely"new" fans. Our attendances arent any greater than in our first season at COMS. What we're likely to see over the next few years is "old" fans returning and those fans that would normally attend 5 or 6 matches a season perhaps going 9 or 10 times.

The "new" fans, when they arrive are likely to be mainly the kids of existing fans, they'll be more inclined to adopt City as their team.

Born in London, raised in Salford, live in Clayton. My family were not interested in football when I was young, half my mates were blue, the others were rags. Can't get to see games due to financial and health restrictions so where does that leave me then, I'm not even on the internet so I can only get to the library when health allows.
