Ref Watch City Games - 2023/24

I'd love to know why Alty didn't go back and book Sterling after his clear hack at Kovacic when he broke clear, he booked Rodri immediately for the same offence. This is before the dangerous lunge at Phil.He was better than normal which isn't saying much.

Did he not play advantage from that one? Or am I thinking of a different one? There was a similar one in the first half by a City player, forget who now. Would have been an almost certain yellow if he’d given the foul but because he played advantage, no booking.

If he could somehow explain why Gallagher wasn’t booked, I might sleep easier.
Also why cucurella wasnt booked and sent off for a ridiculous dive near Foden. but Gallagher not getting a yellow had very strong spot betting vibes. Only explanation for it.

Reckon a lot of bets were scuppered. I know mine was.

Yeah have to agree, only problem I had was the persistent fouling from Gallagher he could have been booked 4 or 5 times for some of the fouls..
Negatives were very few from the low bar he sets....that hairy fucker should have had a second yellow, Gallagher was allowed to foul all game (if only he was dealt with like Rodders) & Sterling was at least a yellow possibly a red.....that being said the home crowd were not happy with him.

For him v us it was a very good balanced performance.

I thought he did ok to be honest and kept the game moving
Our pen was 100% but he is still getting shit for it
Their pen was 100% as well
Sterling tackle wasn’t great and could have been red but was at the end so no real impact
Cucurella dive was funny because I think he thought Phil was about to absolutely nail him (wish he did)
Can’t understand why anyone would want to be a ref

Observations from inside the ground, where obviously it’s harder to be impartial -

Both pens looked clear - from the other end of the ground - although it seemed to take the incompetent cheat a long time to give ours - did the linesman signal it?

Rodri booking was fair BUT by the same token how was Gallagher not booked at least 4 times? How was Cucurella not booked at least twice? Why did he not go back and book sterling for his terrible foul on Foden?

Big decisions right for me but definitely reffed to completely different standards in terms of fouls and bookings

As I said earlier, I thought he was decent yesterday but to answer your question re bookings; IMHO the refs are under orders to keep it 11 v 11 in 'the big Sunday match'. Sky had a brilliant game for the neutral to watch, send someone off and that all changes. Go back to Milner v us. He should have been sent off but then you wouldn't have got the last 15 minutes of frantic football sky love. Pigmob are told not to spoil the product.

If so, surely that is corruption as the laws of the game are not applied correctly (as they would be, to say a 3pm Sat ko)

The advantage rule is being stretched far beyond what is reasonable. You cannot wave advantage and then say there was no advantage simply because the receiving player miscontrolled the pass and surrendered possession. Similarly, waving advantage now seems increasingly to be used as an excuse for not booking players.
