Ref Watch City Games - 2023/24

How do you explain the penalty that Wolves got on Sunday. The fellah made sure that he tripped himself up by dragging his leg across the City defender. No appeal from Wolves, and Wolves fans laughing at the decision. I can't remember laughing myself at such a decision. A human shouldn't make that kind of error considering the experience and number of games they'd reffed. I can put it in the 'useless' reffing category but at this level a mistake like that should result in a termination of the fellah's appointments.

I just wonder whether, after a VAR intervention and a goggle at the pitchside monitor had they been available, he would have changed his mind.
I haven’t seen it. The referee will have seen what he saw and given the decision.

Not sure how refs being human excuses the shit shows we see every week go unpunished. Strange hill to die on, mate.
Have you ever refereed a match? It‘s really hard when 22 players are trying to cheat and 50k fans screaming at you whilst the game is moving at 100mph.

Yes I have. Not quite 50k, but then I was only getting £20 for it and hadn't been through all the levels of refereeing to get to the PL. Have you?
Yes. And not with players running at 35kph. They're making split second decisions under extreme pressure and then forensically pulled apart in slow motion.

Fire the twats, it's easy.
You don't do your job well, subconsciously or not, you get fucked off.
There’s a finite pool to choose from which is getting smaller as the abuse they get is rising all the time.

It’ll likely get worse as less and less people are willing to take the continuous abuse.

Apart from that. He didn't referee them again the the PL.

He sent Keane off in that 6-3 grey shirt game at Southampton in 1996.

He refereed United a further 20 times before he retired in 2004, the majority of them in the Premier League.

You literally did say that.
And explained why. You literally cannot take context out of decisions in football matches. To do so would mean you weren’t human.

People expect perfection from referees. That is impossible and the more they demand it, the less referees will step forward and the more frustrated fans will become.

In a vacuum, two identical challenges in the 3rd minute and 87th minute could be refereed differently. Bookings are far more likely in the final part of the game than the first.

Always was and always will be. They were called reducers back in the day.

Until fans expectations of perfection and uniformity are relaxed, this will be a perpetual bugbear for all fans that can’t see that referees are human.
