Ref Watch

I've been saying for years that the manipulation of results against us is down to an accumulation of many individually deniable decisions. Have been called a nutter but I stand by it.
Tonight was another classic example. Nothing big and obvious just the insiduous and constant effect of a huge proportion of decisions going against us.

Its bent... simple as that.

We did ourselves no favours tonight but the narrow margin of that result WAS affected by the officiating.

We had the chances, especially in the first leg to take the officials out of the equation, but we blew the opportunity.

Still tbh at least we didn't get fucked over in a CL Final by the murderers... which is a small consolation for me.

nothing obvious but little things that chipped away at us.

as for extra time, I think someone from UEFA had a quiet word in his ear at 90 minutes

Football's not a game where you can stop the clock whenever the ball isn't in play. Clive Thomas, in his autobiography writes that he did this once when he started refereeing, and the game lasted more than four hours. American football does this, and their games are often over four hours from start to finish.

I remember a few years ago, the authorities declared that as football was an entertainment business, they should encourage more goals, and law amendments, for offside etc., took this into consideration.

Then VAR came in, and all that was done away with.

Extra time is a complete joke though. It favours time-wasting teams and anti-football. Courtois taking the ball to the opposite side for every goal kick? This law amendment was introduced to get the ball in play quicker from a goal kick, so don't let teams misuse the law. Players feigning injury. Ok, the first one might be genuine, but when the same player repeats the obvious trick two minutes later, don't stop play for him. Make him walk off the pitch for treatment. When 30 seconds is the recommended time to add back on following a substitution or a goal, actually apply that recommendation.

But we have reached the point where we do need some sort of verification on time lost during the match. Who decided on three minutes last night, and how was that selected? It's just so arbitrary, and it flies in the face of fair play and encouraging entertaining football.
 
Same old, unless we completely take the game away from the opposition, these bent fuckers become the fine margin, it's the same both here and in Europe, Casimero was given a pass to foul with impunity, at this level that is a huge advantage. The time keeping was beyond corrupt, but last night was nothing new, we saw it the very first time we played in Munich in 2011, nothing has changed since.

The thing is, if the clock was stopped everytime the ball went out of play or for a free kick, injuries(fake)etc it would negate the need to timewaste so teams wouldn't do it.

There’s lots of instances where we can look at other teams and say they got lucky, the ref was on their side etc, but it swings in roundabouts. I don’t think I need to mention our game against Arsenal, Wolves and Everton. 3 wins, which could have easily been 3 draws had VAR stayed neutral, that’s 6 points that we may not have got, many will say that VAR have handed us the PL title on the back of that.

You look at Liverpool, Chelsea and Utd, all 3 have had decisions go their way, apart from Utd though I’m not sure Chelsea or Liverpool have had ones that have had any real effect on the final result though.

Tonight was disappointing, but we move on to the next game and I as much as everyone else feel frustrated and want to blame the refs and how corrupt UEFA and the PL are, but EVERY team gets decisions for and against them.

Personally I think the result and the ref are 2 different things. We absolutely failed to close the game out and neither of their 2 goals were the fault of the referee. BUT as a separate issue the performance of the referee was once again shocking and once again seemingly anti-City and pro-“history team”. How he could allow 2 mins and 3 mins injury time in each half of extra time, and his complete inability to control madrids blatant time wasting and fouling, was utterly disgraceful. In fact it wasn’t inability, he just clearly didn’t want to, he was more keen to fist bump Luca midrib. The fact that he failed to book Madrid players for clear yellow card offences. His regular not giving us free kicks, indeed giving them free kicks for fouls on our players. All of the above was blatant anti-City game management that affected the result, or affected our ability to get a result. It’s the same in the PL, how the fuck do the dippers go 47 games in the PL without having a penalty given against them, double the previous record of ANY team in the PL EVER? Let’s be clear, this is absolutely and clearly corrupt and is about brand and money - in England it’s about what the premier league’s refs can do to assist the 2 clubs with significantly the hugest fan base; ffs the former long term head of the PL openly said that it’s good for the PL for united and liverpool to win it - if that’s what is said in public just what the fuck is being said in private? What’s being discussed in PIGMOB hq to help the PL “brand”. It’s the same in Europe - the refereeing performances are clearly biased towards the “history clubs”, those with the biggest world wide fan bases, those who uefa feel add most significantly to their coffers, such as Real, Barcelona, Bayern, Juventus, united and liverpool.

So yeah a couple of mins of bad defending and bad concentration was the main reason a wonderful football team lost last night, but our ability to compete on a level playing field was compromised big time by a clearly biased ref. And it will happen again and again and again, at home and abroad. Every trophy we win has to be won against unfair bias towards certain clubs, fuck knows how much harder we have to work to win something than liverpool, and anyone who thinks uefa and the PL aren’t bent, corrupt and influenced by greed probably also think Santa and the Easter bunny are real

Odd take - in just the league games against City, Liverpool should have had Milner sent off (Anfield) and then Thiago & Fabinho (Etihad). As much as we capitulated last night, in both games City were on top when it was 11vs11 and would likely have forced a result. By your logic, that negates the 6 points for Arsenal, Wolves and Everton
