Referees/Officials

To paraphrase two revealing replies on a recent Bernie Ecclestone interview by Eddie Jordan for Top Gear.

1. Ferrari is Formula 1.
2. In response to how the F1 seems to always go to the last race he said if fixed it was not by him when he was the boss but he couldn’t say if the teams or other parties hadn’t colluded.

Transpose F1 for Premier League where certain teams are seen as more important and much bigger sums of money are involved. Entertainment, marketing, sponsorship and gambling are critical components for the Premier Leagues financial success and continued growth so will be a consideration. Referees and match officials will be aware it is important not to go against the grain with so many interested parties involved. Remember that the bottom club in the Premier League now receives more money than the winners of the European Champions League so is unlikely to protest too much.

The day that we will get a ref that is in our favour from the start of the match to end of it, will be the day that hell freezes over. As that is not likely to happen any time soon, I suggest fellow blues that we better get use to all the ref's being anti City.

With Martin Atkinson due to be the ref for the derby on Thursday, I am already expecting him to give the rags a penalty should they be either losing or drawing so that they can either get in front of us or stay the same points behind us. There is no way that I can see him letting us win this game.

A ref that favoured City over another Team would find himself removed from the Elite list in a heartbeat.

I'd happily settle for a set of officials who are completely fair to both teams. Ain't gonna happen though.

The way Pawson moved Arsenal up the pitch for the winner was what Webb would call superb game management.

Pawson played a f**king blinder vs us.

Everyone is moaning about this and that, but no one is complaining about something a few refs are purposely doing in the final third when we have the ball, they cut off our passing lanes!

This isn't accidental, they know exactly where they are standing. Pawson did it constantly every time we were setting up a move around the corner of the boxes.

But it's not rigged.

so you don't think it is understandable that the players feel deflated by the bad decisions? Fair enough, but I did go on to say they need to be stronger and rise above it anyway.

No i didn't mean that. The bit i highlighted, that referees are only human. That old chestnut covers up any
shit or blatantly wrong decision.

You're spot on. The times this season i've been screaming at the ref, to get out the fucking way.

We said at the time it was not a red, Bravo jumped in the air then slid and executed a perfect one footed sliding challenge with inside of his foot.

At moment of impact which player is most 2 footed, has both feet off the ground, is out of control ?

Fucking exactly. It was never a pen of any sort and i can't believe the rags argued about this for so long.
Now City fans saying we got the rub of the green with it. Leave it out.

The other thing about getting away with it, is that teams grow in confidence. And you could see Arsenal's physical demeanour change after the disallowed goal, even in what was left of the 1st half.
They got more cocky and started to push more. And they never really looked back. They'd got out of jail twice and they felt like it was their day.
It's like United's 'unbeaten' run. The players won't think 'We're not that good we keep getting ridiculous decisions in our favour and Hull beat us.' They'll think 'We're unbeatable we are.'
They're in a team. They'll believe black's white if they're told to. Good old team sports, eh? Character building.

There's a number of reasons.

The semi is an easy one: The FA Cup, sponsored by Emirates, sees a team sponsored by Emirates playing in the final with the said team having drawn two non-league teams in the previous two rounds.

In the league, they want the teams that most people watch and therefore bring in the advertising revenue and sponsorship in the top four and CL and that's Liverpool, the rags and Arsenal. But there's also a definite vendetta against us because of stuff going on behind the scenes. We're trying hard to upset and topple the old order and they don't like it. The rags would be nowhere near the top four this season if there was a level playing field and the laws of the game were applied consistently and fairly.
Always enjoy reading your posts.....don't always agree,......anyhow, surely if the refs are under instructions...somebody would break ranks and spill the beans.....especially if it's been going on for a number of years.
Have to say part of me wants to believe it after the Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool home games, plus the Semi....has anyone mentioned the 'only one minute of injury time, by the way ?
On Sunday the really noticeable thing was the way Arsenal were allowed to break up the play with cynical fouls without being punished, not to mention the thuggery on Silva and Aguero !
I have followed your previous Walton posts and you seem to have some information that the rest of us have not got privilege to !
I'm still not convinced.....however it certainly cannot just be dismissed either, when you combine with the FFP campaign etc.

I wasn't talking about the refs in the bit you highlighted, I was talking about the players only being human and being affected by all the shit decisions.

I think it has worn them down over the years.
Kompany at CSKA was fed up with it. How long ago's that?

What was the point about Walton?

Just sing "you're fucking cheats" (to the same tune we sang "you're fucking shit" at mould trafford) at the officials for 90 mins

Apparently there was a dossier produced that when passed to the fa caused walton to leave. This is of course hearsay as I've not seen said dossier. However 3 refs left the premiership under strange circumstances that season if I remember right
Walton left pretty sharpish and Mason was withdrawn from one of our games at short notice then didn't referee us for over a year. Webb retired quite a few years earlier than he needed to at the end of the following season.
But that's not to suggest that those three were named in the dossier and its entirely scurrilous to also claim that Chris Foy was another on that list. Allegedly.
