odds-on it will drag on all Summer and kick off again in the Autumn as the next window approaches. Clubs put off by a big fee and wages given his age, and he is not going to sign a new contract when he can walk in the summer.Forzacitizens said:Hope we hear some news this week.
I mentioned weeks ago that I'd heard that rvp wanted us and talks between Rvp agents and ourselves had taken place. Even his agent admitted that he'd been to the etihad for a meeting with us! My uncle does insurance work for a couple of tha arsenal board members and when they go out drinking together loose tongues start talking and obviously being a city fan he asks about stuff and let's me know. Throughout the whole nasri transfer I said it would happen and it got held back purely because of wenger. Do u remember the pics that he was putting up on his twitter? Meeting paddy and constantly talking to nasri etc? And his tweets normally have deeeecent in them now?! Coincidence??Stuuuuuu said:richards30 said:Remember not to believe the media or fans of any other team mate.

You say not to believe other people, then you make a speculative comment!
Mister Appointment said:This pursuit of Van Persie seems odd to me. I know people keep saying that the gaffer really wants him, but hasn't it been Brian Marwood who's pushed for the Arsenal players we've signed previously? I believe the gaffer when he says he's got four top strikers and he's happy with them.
If we were to sign him and subsequently let go of either Dzeko or Tevez I personally think that would be bad business on our part. Everything about this Van Persie transfer screams rip off from the fee Arsenal want to the wages he will want.

1) No great footballing reason to swap RVP for Dzeko or Tevez or even Mario
2) It would be very costly
3) Even if we got over 1 and 2 we'd then have to find a buyer for the displaced player and that wouldn't be easy. Remember the saga with Tevez in the last transfer window when we coudn't find a buyer even when he was at logger-heads with City

Feelers may well have been put out but thats a long way from a transfer.richards30 said:I mentioned weeks ago that I'd heard that rvp wanted us and talks between Rvp agents and ourselves had taken place. So RvP is going to be our new 4th. choice striker is he?
If RvP comes (and personally I do think he will end up here) he's coming to replace Tevez and Balotelli as Aguero's partner.
This means Balotelli will likely be our new 4th. choice striker... and that's a good idea?
And even if the sales of Adebayor/RSC/Teve/Dzeko are going to determine whether or not we pursue RvP... what has this to do with our other transfer targets in midfield and at the back? Surely they are separete issues? So why are we holding back on the other potential deals?
Like I said at the start of the transfer window, I think we could go again with what we've got. And if it means consigning Adebayor and RSC to the Carling Cup campaign then so be it.
Arsenal, Chelsea and the rags signings have still not made them better than us.

No cover for Kompany? No cover for Yaya? Passing on the chance to sign a superb striker like RVP? You're right that we could go for it and hope for no injuries to our key men (Kompany, Yaya and Aguero), but I don't see why we should.

No cover for Kompany? Kolo, Savic and Richards spring to mind, with Rekik for the Carling Cup games. Yaya? I do think we need to prioritise a midfielder, but even so we still have de Jong and Milner in reserve. And Razak, Suarez for the Carling Cup.
We are not down to bare bones. Chill.

I'm chilled mate, but if I were the manager charged with defending the title and having a serious attempt at the Champions League, I'd want better cover for Kompany than Kolo or Savic, and better cover for Yaya than Milner or De Jong (Martinez would be perfect because he'd kill two birds with one stone). I'd also want to sign a top striker like RVP should he be available, and I'd be prepared to sacrifice Dzeko to get him. Standing still is rarely a wise option if you're sights are set high.
