The yanks got most of their shit from UK, measurements still in use today, refrigeration is still measures in tons, horse power, there's yards, inches, deg F, British Thermal units for heat, inches water gauge for resistance etc etc.

Britain has abandoned all these.
Abandoning inches of water for resistance was probably a decent move, to be fair.

Yeah, we’re frequent visitors to the US, and it takes a bit of getting used to all the imperial measurements each time we go over there.
 
If you’re referring to whom I think you are, he was this election's Portillo; the one I was most delighted to see the back of.
Yet, Michael Portillo has really grown on me, so to speak, since then, from his railway journeys, to his walks throughout Britain and Europe, even his stints on political programmes, I can listen to his views and dare I say, agree with many. However, not so sure I could say that of the former.

I don’t mind Portillo now.

We’ve watched some of his Great Train Journeys programmes, and they are quite interesting.
