Super Joey Hart?

Great mind games on Ibrahimovic before the penalty. Standing behind the goal pretending to drink out of his juice bottle and making him wait to take it. Great save Joe. Redemption for Luiz hooking his leg round Sagna & diving.

Right so we give them the ball back to allow them to come at us again?
This is assuming that City will automatically lose the fight for the high ball...
In any case better than what happened last night, don't you reckon?
With two minutes or so on the clock, kick it up field as far as you can, have your attackers close down the opponent's defenders if they get to the ball first, no way it 'll result straight away in another attack by the opposing team, let alone a succesful one. An attack from back to front, when everyone is in their correct position, which is always going to be the case with a goal kick, takes time to organize and doesn't succeed very often.

It's a fair assumption to make, is it not?

Leathering it will give them the ball back. We have a tiny team up top. For me, it was the right pass. He had time to do 3 things. 3 city players were there to receive the ball. It was just a mistake. We were passing the ball around the back at times in much much tighter situations. Compared to some occasions, he had time to control and pass. He didn't.

I still think he played very well tho.

Looked like he had a cheeky word as well with him - he was smiling at something

That is what I'm insinuating. Keeper plays simple ten yard pass to midfielder who drops to the edge of the box and is in plenty of space. It's the obvious ball, it's why the centre backs go out to the full back positions to allow the holding mid to drop deep centrally to receive it. It happens all the time with teams that play out from the back. Like I said, basic stuff.
Out of interest how many times did we play that ball before the 41st minute? I can't recall one. So why did he feel the need to do it at that stage of the game? That's my problem with the whole thing. We had just gone 1-0 up, there was 4 minutes until halftime and he tried something which was going to put us under pressure on the edge of our box regardless of which player he went with.
I want him to get used to playing it short from the back because it's clear it'll be expected from next season. But that is after a full preseason with pep when it's been drilled into him and the rest of the back four and midfield. Last night seemed more off the cuff rather than something that had been worked on.
Last night I wanted him to dilly dally for 30 seconds or so, giving the team more than enough time to get set and wrap their heads around just going ahead. Then a big fuck off launch as far into the PSG half to either side, ideally going out for a throw in so we could keep them deep in their own half.
So yes, everything you say is simple basic stuff, but there's a time and place to implement it and in that moment I don't think it was.

Hear, hear - spot on mate.

It was a poor call by Joe to make the pass, and very bad technique from Fernando. They both had a hand in it, but Fernando's hand was much bigger. Being able to receive and control a ball passed straight to you, along the ground, on a perfect pitch should probably be a pre-requisite for a professional footballer.

He didn't try something that was going to put us under pressure, he played a simple ten yard ball to a midfielder who had dropped deep to call for the ball.

Hart regulary has a brain drain I cannot see Pep putting up with it. It should be a thanks for the memories.

But we conceded. Even if Fernando's first touch was better he was still going to have to rush a pass as Ibra was closing in. His options were either knock it back to Hart who would then have Ibra bearing down on him or out to Otamendi who wouldn't have had the time he did had it gone straight to him from Hart.
I think we've exhausted the ins and outs now.

I'm hoping that Pep with the GK coach will improve him as a player. He has so many good qualities but there are some issues that never seem to get any better. He is a good solid keeper and has saved us many times. If he could iron out the issues he would be one of the very best.

Not blaming him for the kick out but he has to start catching the ball. He's punching it even when hes not under pressure. The penalty came from him punching a cross he should catch 10/10.
It started when he conceded a few from corners right under the cross bar for city and England so he started punching those and its spread to pretty much anything inside the penalty spot regardless of who is around him.

Probably a daft question -BUT how would Willy have performed in the game?
Would he have saved the penalty? Would he have punched the ball leading to their second goal? And would he have made the pass to Nando?

Hart didn't make an error, that was made by Fernando. But I do think that Hart should not have made the pass. 40 minutes on the clock and City ahead. Take your time and play the ball long.

So he did make the error? IMO the ball should either have gone long or to one of the full backs who had much more peripheral vision of their immediate surroundings. Yes, Nando fucked up with the ball, but he should not have needed to be in that position.

He put himself in that position.

I agree with that line 'if in doubt punch it out' however it seems Hart has become obsessive about punching. That one that led to the penalty last night was easily catchable.

It was, and I screamed at the telly when he punched it. He had time and space and it was an easy ball to catch. He is either being instructed to always punch or he (or the manager) feel very uncomfortable about him catching it.
