The Boxing thread

Just seen Joshua acting like a complete bellend after the fight with that speech. What a pathetic sore loser, just surprised he doesn't support the rags going off like that

Yeah he lost it again on the way back to the dressing room after someone shouted "keep it professional"

Felt a bit for aj there, he fought the best he could and I think he was just disappointed it wasn't enough. Make no mistake, that performance beats nearly every hw out there that isn't fury or usyk and I think aj was just trying to come to term with that.
He could go and challenge whyte for the grudge fight or maybe try and get the bronze bomber out, but it won't be for belts and it's whether he can accept that or not.

Usyk, wow what can you say. There are true hws that have been dropped by those shots and never returned. This guy is really really special.

As an alleged elite fighter....How? he has been beaten again.....while this time revealing a seriously unbalanced mind.

Much as I don't like to use this analogy, this thought process is like calling the Dippers 'a shit team cos they won the Prem once when we were poor that season'.

They've been constantly outclassed by our better team.

That doesn't make them shit, but probably be perpetual champions in another era.

Come on, thread, let's not be silly with the Joshua comments (not picking on you, FI).

I think Joshua's stock went up this evening despite him losing. I'd still like any combination of the following fighters to have a fight.

Fury
Usyk
Joshua
Wilder
I’d love to see a Spring 2023 consisting of Fury v Usyk and Joshua v Wilder.

One of the two main reasons boxing is nowhere near as good a sport as it should be (the main one being rigged results) is that you never get to see all the good fighters fighting each other.

Could you imagine Khaldoon coming out and saying “I don’t think we’ll be playing Liverpool this season, they’re running scared and the money isn’t good enough anyway”?!

All that shit makes a mockery of boxing.

Did Sugar Ray Robinson ever duck a fight in his life… he took everybody multiple times to show he was the greatest. 201 fights he had in his career! These jokers are doing well if they get to 40 fights.

That Pacquiao never fought Mayweather when they were both in their primes is a disgrace to the sport.

I'd agree with this and something I was about to post.

I've, yet, to see the post fight interview (I switched straight over to UFC), but it strikes me from what I'm reading on here, he was pissed off in not letting himself have a proper crack at Usyk.

Watching the fight, he seemed to be balancing pace and timing against being knocked out as a fear. He walked through the best Usyk could give him, clearly hurt him, but still waited.

That frustration with himself would permeate being 'nice'. I think this loss of a potential win will change him, change his mindset and force him to do things fully differently and not half commit.

I know if it were me, I'd be fucked off with myself more than anyone else.

Maybe I'll retract my comments after watching the video, maybe it will reaffirm it. We'll see.

The only way back for AJ now is a blockbuster with Audley Harrison he too won a gold medal so really it doesn’t guarantee greatness. To see him wrapping the Ukrainian flag around himself showed he is not the destructive fighter he needs to be however nice the gesture appears he is not ruthless enough to be a great champion

l just don't know where the split decision came from.

Nearly everyone apart from a judge had Usyk winning unanimously, I aint no boxing expert but you didn't need to be to see that.

Apart from Round 9 Usyk seemed to be able to contain Joshua, although Joshua did land a tremendous punch in I think R4.... which Usyk rode very well.
The judges in boxing are absolute joke. 115-112 that judge should be fucked off! The Badou Jack fight was an absolute shocked too from the judged.

I’ll never understand the idea that a boxer needs to retire after he’s lost a few fights.
