He must of been 16 in his first pro fight. Thats way too young. This kid may well be the real deal but he wont be around long term. The higher up he goes the more punishment he will take and the more long term damage he will take. I would worry about him in the long term. Like all great Mexican fighters he will want to go on and do what those legends did and more.
Just looking at some of the boxers who are fighting in the ams at the moment who is his age and you would of thought the lad would of wanted to fight at a Olympics. In most other countries most fighters would have some am experience before turning pro. I look over here in Ireland. The new pros out there who of had well over 100 am fights before heading off pro. You need to get the technique sorted in those early years then the pros is all about technique and power.
Leighton i fucking hated it when i fought at a higher Am level. The tippy tap, scoring mostly jabs is bollocks! In the 4 fights i fought like this, i won by stoppage, while being on average 5 or 6 points behind! My belief, is that some lads stay around the amateurs too long. The main reason for staying amateur, is winning a medal somewhere, which will get you a bigger and better deal, when you turn over, unless you have a gimmick and sell a lot of tickets. Just look at fraudley harrison, he was almost 30 when he won olympic gold. His pro career wasn't up to much was it? However, he is a very wealthy man, so his decision to hang on has paid off.
I think young de gale is the exception though. I am confident, he will go all the way, in the pro ranks.
