What does everyone make of Matthew Hatton's chances with Alvarez?

Personally, I think he's going to have his arse handed to him. I've seen Alvarez box before on a few undercards, and I've always been impressed. I really can't see any other outcome.

If Alvarez is as good as people make him out to be then Mat Hatton will be doing well to hear the final bell. Ricky has done his kid brother the biggest night of his life and getting him a world title shot is some going. Mat not even the best at British level I would have Kell Brook ahead of him and I honestly think Kell will be World Champion some time this year but Mat will be back to the British title level after this fight.

Honestly mate, Alvarez looks the real deal. I'll be amazed if Matthew comes out of it with anything other than quite a beating.

Incredible when you remember that Alvarez is only 20.

He must of been 16 in his first pro fight. Thats way too young. This kid may well be the real deal but he wont be around long term. The higher up he goes the more punishment he will take and the more long term damage he will take. I would worry about him in the long term. Like all great Mexican fighters he will want to go on and do what those legends did and more.

Just looking at some of the boxers who are fighting in the ams at the moment who is his age and you would of thought the lad would of wanted to fight at a Olympics. In most other countries most fighters would have some am experience before turning pro. I look over here in Ireland. The new pros out there who of had well over 100 am fights before heading off pro. You need to get the technique sorted in those early years then the pros is all about technique and power.

hatton's guy got battered a couple of weeks ago so he'll need this fight to come out in his favour or people will start to doubt his credentials as a promoter imo, the guy he put up against that belgian the other week was shite and got his arse handed to him by a guy nobody had given a chance too.

Leighton i fucking hated it when i fought at a higher Am level. The tippy tap, scoring mostly jabs is bollocks! In the 4 fights i fought like this, i won by stoppage, while being on average 5 or 6 points behind! My belief, is that some lads stay around the amateurs too long. The main reason for staying amateur, is winning a medal somewhere, which will get you a bigger and better deal, when you turn over, unless you have a gimmick and sell a lot of tickets. Just look at fraudley harrison, he was almost 30 when he won olympic gold. His pro career wasn't up to much was it? However, he is a very wealthy man, so his decision to hang on has paid off.

I think young de gale is the exception though. I am confident, he will go all the way, in the pro ranks.

Scot Quigg seems to be Hattons star in the making but I would love to see him in with Carl Frampton the Jackal he would give Quigg a hiding to nothing but with Hatton wanting to keep Quigg's 0 in his record I cant see this fight happening but it should. Frampton is the best young fighter out there at the moment in my view he is on the Sky card Saturday night not too sure if Sky will show it as they have a deal with Setanta so they might not want Sky to show it but the lad has power and great boxing skills he has all the skills and more to go to the top.

For a young promotions outfit they have a decent enough of stable and going into the long term Hatton Promotions will get a number of top talent and will grow into the biggest promotions in the UK.

Steve Foster Jnr shouldn't have fought as he had a virus hence why he ran out of steam, as usual he showed his heart and as a fellow Salford resident I was very proud of him.In regards Matthew Hatton I've never been a big fan but fair play too him for taking this fight I reckon Saul will stop him in round seven.

Anymore news on Murray v Mitchell? Is it still cancelled?

Each to there own. It depends on who they are fighting over here now we have a brilliant batch of ams on our hands and I would expect the Irish boxing team to bring back medals from London in 2012. Our Nationals was last weekend and the quaility in some of the divisions is amazing the young lads coming up 2 of them only 17 won there first ever Senior National championship against 2 fighters in former Olympic Silver medal winner and another who went to the Olympics. Over here most of the divisions are close to call. Then with the WBS it is giving the boxers a chance to fight on in the ams and fight the best in the world and still go for medals at the Olympics. I am shocked that a team from Ireland or the UK wasnt set up as some of the boxing on show is great the ams is the art of boxing to me.

Regarding James DeGale he still is prone to slapping in fights his technique isnt there just yet. I think he is a fighter who with the right training can go far BUT he needs to sort out a number of things. He was at a time training with Money in the US so if he can get back over there and learn from Money it will benefit him in the long term. To be honest his biggest test will come when he fights George Grooves this kid I like he showed a lot of heart when he was put down to get up and KO his opponent. He is with maybe 1 of the most under rated trainers in Adam Booth he has a great trainer who will get him to the highest level in my opinion. To honest there are some nice young fighters in the UK I like Frankie Gavin and think with Arnnies gym looking after him well he has every chance too to go far and fight for a World title. Then even John Murrays kid brother has impressed me so far along with Quigg there is some young talent out there at the moment.

He landed a few shots but doesn't have anywhere near the power to trouble the top fighters. Canelo needs to work on his defense a bit if he wants to compete with the big guns.

-- 06 Mar 2011, 12:21 --

Zab Judah put on a very good performance as well, great left hook to end it. He'll be looking to get back in the mix with the best at 140 now.

Zab Judah last night rolled back the years. What a finish by Zab after the first punch the fight should of been called off. He is now back in with a chance of the bigger fights. Whos to say Bradley v Judah wont be made. With Khan and his team being a right nightmare to work with by sorting out a deal for Bradley a fight with Judah would sell in the US.
Also David Haye v Wladmir Klitschko is sorted for either the 25th of June or the 2nd of July in Germany. Wladmir has it in Germany I just hope the ref isnt swayed by Klitschko and the pro home town decisions. This fight would of sold out anywhere and I am surprise Haye didnt look at getting this fight on in the US somewhere nuetral than Germany or the UK.

Also next weekend there is a good fight on Premier Sports Marthinez and on the undercard a fight that might steal the show. Andy Lee v Craig McEwan the winner might well end up fighting Marthinez.

Macklins fight with Winky Wright is off no word yet if they can get a replacement in for Macklin on short notice.

As for Mat Hatton never going to be able for World level in my opinion he has Ricky backing but was never going to get to the level needed to be a World Champion. I wonder who Ricky has him lined up to fight if he goes on but his kid brother doesnt have the time to be waiting around if he wants another go at a World title.

Im just watching the Hatton fight and this Alveraz will be world class but Hatton should be proud he took him all the way in a weight class that renders his punching useless

Kell Brook would spark that kid out if a fight with the 2 of those were to happen that lad will be a world champion some time this year.

Oh yeah dont get me wrong i think Golden Boy have fucked up getting Alvarez a title this early as he will be beaten by the better fighters than a hand picked Hatton fighting at the wrong weight, considering he was 20 i was shocked at the amount of fights he has had

You reckon Brook would beat Alvarez?

I do think Kell has it in him to beat Alvarez. It would be a good fight Brook has been sparking out people for fun a bit like Alvarez but Brook just has something special about him. Warren has a real talent on his hands and IF he could get him a World title shot in the Welterweight division he has every chance of winning it. He wont get a Pacman fight and Berto is tied up so if Warren was to get a fight with Jan Zaveck Brook would have a great chance to win the IBF Title. The thing for Warren the longer he waits to put Brook in the title frame the harder it will be for him to get a title fight. If he waits till next year you could well have Bradley and Khan moving up and jumping the que.
