The Derby Post Match Thread

Whoa

You can spew as much bullshit as you like, but today was about consolidating what we have and not being stupid enough to pretend otherwise. When the main guys are out we're still a work in progress, simply because they haven't had much playing time together. This attitude of crucifying seasoned players for one individual mistake pisses me off no end!
What have you been smoking??

IMO, draw acceptable, just! However, Bony looks unfit and not up to the task/fight. No movement or ability to hold the ball up. Bony idle! Toure appeared to walk through the game without making an effort at working/tackling or powerful running with the ball that we associate him with. We looked nervous on the ball, which doesn't bode well moving forward from here. Arsenal will be delighted watching that poor effort today from their biggest rivals.

The criticism in this thread is comical. Yaya should've played deeper, bony sucks, front 4 were terrible in possession. While some of that does have material, it's ridiculous. Can't have it all every game. Defensive solidity for the first time in months. The alternative would be a blow to the season. Manure would be top of the table right now. It's a two-legged tie against the title contenders. I'd take a point away from home to stay at the top of the table every time. Let them come to the etihad for the reverse fixture and take the spoils in the season series.

Was an awful game to watch, but we've been spoiled under Pellers. In hindsight it was really pleasant to see that city is capable of playing solid, compact football.

Bony comes far too deep, he gave the ball away at one point in the second half when he received it just in front of Kompany, youd never see Kun there. Needs to be up on the last man. he ended up playing an crowding toure's space. I prefer toure playing that deeper role where he can pull the strings and drill passes into the forwards, we don't quite get that passing service from fernandhino.

It's hard to criticise Bony in a game where we were so defensive. What's he supposed to do? Take on the entire defence himself?

Correct. We weren't at our best today, probably our worst performance all season and they still couldn't score against us. That will rankle them. Big time. I didn't agree with Pellegrini's first eleven for City, I'd have had Navas instead of Toure but his substitutions later on, settling for a probable draw was good, shrewd management.

I'm loving the revisionism on here today, in various threads.

For months and months, until today Infact, Manuel has been lambasted for "only having one style of play", and "being too gung Ho in his approach" , "unable to close a game out" , "a half decent team would have destroyed us today" , "he players saved him" (I love that one...it's their job! ) etc etc.

We go today to the second best team in the league, at their home ground, missing the two best players in the country, with the leagues best defender just coming back from a month out and grind out a truly impressive draw and guess what ...?

"We should have gone for them today" , "they were there for the taking" , he was "too scared of them".

It used to piss me off when people tried to score points like this with the last manager, now we have people doing it to our latest manager.

City and United are the two best teams in the country and will finish 1st and 2nd this season. In that order. Largely because of days like today. Amd for That we have the manager to thank. Again.

Well played Manuel.
top post. Hope they finish 5th though.

Some need to realise that united had there strongest eleven out yesterday and they could not muster a proper chance apart from in the last few minutes - that in itself should tell some that they are turd, Apart from martial who is their one bright spark and he only had a few glimpses, they have nothing to show. Yes they had possession but they did nothing with it.

Now you take silva and kun out of any team and the display will be totally different, lets not forget since Vinny being out we have been conceding goals, yesterday we got back to showing a totally solid defensive game, with otamendi impressing for the whole 90mins.

Put our full strength team out against united and we would have won that game and we will show that when they come to the Etihad.

Solid defensive display yesterday that I reckon will get us back to where we were at the start of the season

Onwards and upwards now

A very fair result yesterday and I would of taken a draw with the injuries we have. There weren't enough chances and like the pundits said we both really just cancelled each other out. Pellegrini was happy and that was shown by him bringing Demi on to stem their midfield from attacking. I don't think we were the better side on the ball but we had the better chances so it could of really gone either way.

Judging by things so far it could be United or Arsenal pushing us for the title so yesterday was perhaps our 2nd or even 1st hardest fixture so to draw is good for us. We have a good run of fixtures coming up now to take us into Xmas so there is plenty of room to get people fit and really open up a gap.

Happy with the point, with silva and aguero, ,we would have beaten them comfortably in my humble opinion, special mention to Fernandinho, he was the best player on the pitch by a mile, class act for sure

I said on the way to the game that missing two world class players i would be happy with a point, that said it was the dullest Derby i have ever seen, both sides well organised, can't believe their fans didn't muster as much as one song,i know we can be quiet at times at home against lesser opposition but no way would we sit in silence against a top 5 team, walking back to the tram after i have never seen as many half and half scalves in my life and the nearest accent i recognised was a group of 5 from South Yorkshire.

well, a torrid game to watch but this is a game that has to disappear into the greater scheme of things.

United, at full strength, toiled and laboured against a well organised City back line (arguably a parked bus) while City, without their two deadliest players up front, were organised but largely toothless.

to save yourself a lot of stressing, just accept the point as a job done. We were poor, granted, but we ruined their cup final and went top of the league.

I'm sorry but I don't understand the moaning. We've gone to a ground where we were hammered last year, limited United to one shot on target and managed this without our two best players. It's a better point for us than them, and I'm confident we'll turn them over at our ground.
