The Derby Post Match Thread

Hats off to Pelle,I though he would drop Kompany,he didnt...also played a good tactical game, points a great result from our reserves.

Only criticism is Pelle waits too long to change things,Bony having a mare,KDB too,Yaya also not good.Great for Argie Nic to get a game like that under his belt

Now we kick on,when is Sergio and Daveed due back?

It was imperative yesterday that we didn't do what we did against Spurs: go away to a team challenging for a top 4 spot and get battered because we underestimate them.

Thankfully, we were solid defensively but beyond that it just wasn't our day. We struggled to get out of first gear, buckled under their high pressing and didn't show what we can do.

A point saw us go back to the top though so take it and look forward to Silva and Aguero reminding them who's in charge back at the Etihad later in the season.

Great solid performance. Didn't go gung-ho and kept our shape. Tried to hit them on the break but when you got bony upfront playing musical statues it's difficult to get the momentum going. Maureen got applauded for being a genius doing that with Chelsea so I'm going to high five Pellegrini and say fuckin spot on with the tactics yesterday, minus sergio and Silva the point tastes even sweeter.

I was happy with the performance and the point. Yesterday was the type of performance we should be putting in in the Champions League, instead of being wide open in the middle of the park.

I have to say though that Yaya is becoming a major problem. I love the guy, he has been a big reason for our success and I have backed him all the way when others have criticized him. We are now at a stage though where he no longer "fits" against decent opposition, whereas previously you knew Yaya was a big game player.

I don't know what it is but in a midfield 2 playing Yaya leaves us wide open in the middle, in a 3 with him further forward we lose his passing ability and control of the ball in the middle of the park and lets face it we have others who can play that number 10 role much more effectively than he can. If we play him deeper as part of a rigid 3 in the middle, I think that could work but then one of Sterling, Silva or KDB has to be dropped, we all know who that would be and I don't think we have paid £44m to bench him.

I think I would lean more to leaving Yaya out of the team in CL games and Prem games against our rivals but only if we had anyone good enough to replace him, who do we have? Fernando! Great! Delph could work alongside Fernandinho but the guy cant get fit.

First clean sheet since the game at Selhurst Park early last month. Surely not coincidence that Vinnie was missing in the majority of those intervening games.

I posted the other day that Otamendi and Mangala together is a car crash waiting to happen. They are not a partnership, they are two individuals playing like kids in an under 12s game. I also stated that Mangala looks much better alongside VK, who clearly keeps him in check and i hoped that when we saw Otamendi alongside VK we would see the same. Straight away yesterday they looked like a partnership and Otamendi had far and away his best game in a City shirt. No coincidence for me!

I agree and enjoyed reading your post.

If the roles had been reversed the stamp would have been shown every hour today on Sky with calls for Navas to get a retrospective red card.

Only seen this twice - once in real time and again in slo-mo - and would like to see it again before making a definite judgement. But from what I saw it appeared ambiguous with Rojo not significantly changing his stride nor jamming his boot down.

I thought that Pellers shown up LVG tactics for the conservative style it is. It is much harder to nullify a top attacking team like Barca, Real, Bayern than a good defensive team like this current United team. The other approach is to attack them relentlessly from the start like Arsenal did which I am convinced we would have done with a fit Silva and Aguero to call on. Personally I am more than happy with the point and the performance to put us top knowing we will revert back to the entertaining attacking winning football, what can the rags look forward to?

Don't think many teams would have got at united yesterday with their brand of anti football any manager who sets a team up to play like that at home and thinks they are title contenders is deluded

piss-poor advert for the prem, plenty of effort but not enough quality. Crucial passes either not seen or misplaced made life difficult for Kdb and Sterling, Bony is wasted in our setup. The rags are more defensive than for many a year and will be glad to finish in top four. Our strength in depth will tell as the season grinds on, Yaya is becoming our rooney it seems to me, though Yaya has not as far to come back, maybe a rest is all he needs. Whatever, we earned a point, the defence was solid despite almost no help from the front three.
Things will get better.

Don't expect to see it again! I agree it was ambiguous but how many times did we see the Mario incident with little Scotty (top, top player) Parker? That was a total witch hunt. I've seen WC winning goals analysed less.

I enjoyed the first half, 2nd half was dross. Job done no complaints.

I believe Pelle missed a trick by playing Yaya behind Bony. I would rather he had KDB or Sterling there. With having played two games already last week, it would have been better to have Yaya on the bench.

I am happy with a point, but I saw nothing in them to convince me we couldn't have got all three points with a better team selection.

Persistent foul and that foul itself warrants booking for stopping the break. He was out of position and knew exactly he had no chance to keep up with Navas .
You right on stamping if it was the other way around, it would be looping on Sky .

OK - I have read up to 59 pages - so I am going to ask a serious question . ? As it was Ferny 1 who was booked - Was it his 5th yellow card of the season?
If so will we lose him for 1 match.?.
Also I like Danny Murphy on MOTD. - talks sense. and also said that Rags claim for a penalty was ludicrous - Herrera collided with Sterling and made a meal of it.

PS. Milner getting praise for his cross to Benteke but how about Kolorov's cross in the last minute - superb - Oto just missed turning it into a goal.
