I was so pleased for him and his reaction was pure, visceral, unalloyed joy. He rode the perfect race but you have to feel for Moscon, he might just have stayed away; we’ll never know.

Paul Sherwen’s mum once saw a photograph that had been taken of Paul moments after he’d finished a particularly gruelling Paris -Roubaix; she broke down in tears at what the race had done to him.

I think Moscon came in 50 ish seconds behind the winner so like you say could have been close.
