I think it would have had to have been because no club could afford a year out of the CL and no player would want to play a season without being in a European competition. I can't believe it either, but I can't see what the alternative was?Surely when they said ‘an August start’, it meant August 2022 or 2023? I can’t see that it would ever have started in August this year!
