The Tottenham Thread (Merged)

Spurs are my second least favourite team, but they deserve credit for their performances this year. They have to considered genuine title contenders now, but I think ultimately it'll be between City and United. I think they're nailed on for a top three finish though. They have a quality squad, unfortunately.

Im shocked at arry talking so openly about Ba. Guy moaned like an ex girlfriend when Chelsea bid for Modric.

The guy is a **** thats why just like his fuckin clueless kid Jamie.... they can both go fuck a barb wired fence!!
At least Arry is a good football manager. Redknapp jr is stealing his money at sky sports. Shame Gary Neville didn't retire earlier.

It fails to amuse me how he (Twitcher Jr) and Dwight Yorke manage to still get jobs on sky??? Has the world really gone topsy turvy where Buzzer can be accused of being bias yet Dwight Yorke can sit there wanking when United win or come up with some stupid bullshit when they are loosing and that Knobhead Jr can sit there slagging every team off untill it comes to Tottenham because daddy can't do nothing wrong... he sat there on that shite programme he's on 'League of their own' or summin?? Stated that he can't stand Mario (Balotelli) and when asked for a reason he could think of one and just said "there's something about him" Yet his dad who's left 3 clubs (by my knowledge) in financial crisis and in the process tapping players up is a fuckin brilliant person???

Harry Redknapp, Jamie Redknapp and Dwight Yorke can all go fuck each other and catch AIDs.....

In front of Liverpool?

Anyway, they can't be genuine title contenders if they are not in contention to win it

It's only my personal opinion they won't win it, doesn't mean they're not genuine title contenders.

Spurs will do what they do every window.

A couple of upcoming players from lower leagues,a disgruntled star from a top club ala adebayor, sandro or van der vaart.

I'm expecting them to gamble the house this month, and I expect them to snatch 2nd.Its vital we beat them Jan 22nd and force them and the rags to start looking at each other as opposed to us.

FYI, Spurs have a partnership arrangement with Internacional in Brazil which gives us first choice on any of their players.

Sandro, who had already broken into Brazil's National team, had just won the Copa Libertadores with them and was hardly a "disgruntled star", in fact, Spurs had been waiting to sign him for well over a year.

And the reason we were able to sign Rafael van der Vaart from Real Madrid was because his £20 million move to SV Hamburg fell through at the last moment and we were able to obtain his services for just £8 million with just minutes of the transfer window left.

Rival fans' views on City and their fans (and whether they c

First post here, having been reading your forums for a while. I actually wanted to start a new topic, but it seems that's not allowed until a good few posts. So I thought I would post here as I am a Spurs fan.

A few of us (fans of various clubs) were having an interesting chat in the pub last night, which ultimately prompted me to start this topic. We were discussing in general about how various football fans view other clubs and their fans, and then spoke about our views on City at length. We also discussed how we felt about how others felt about our own club and fans. What I found interesting was how much most of us DID care about how other fans felt about our club/fans. I'd never really thought about it, but I realise I do care about how other football fans perceive Spurs and their fans. As we spoke quite a lot about City (a team obviously many football fans now talk about) and as this forum has quite a lot of fans of other teams, I thought it would be interesting to have a thread where these fans gave their views on City/fans and the fans talked about whether they care.

For me personally, I only know one Man City fan particularly well, so it's hard to make too much of a judgement on them as a whole. This particular fan is as down to earth as they come, and we've had some great banter about football over the years. We were in the same pub watching City v Spurs in 2010 and gave each other plenty of (light hearted) stick. When the game finished, he came straight over and said "well done" and bought me a pint. Obviously gutted himself, he was very gracious. I find it interesting that, largely as a result of this one chap, I have a fairly positive view on City fans that I doubt would exist if he was a prat. I also (as many Spurs fan have said before) feel quite some empathy with them as a team that has been largely overshadowed by the achievements of their biggest rivals in recent years. Also like many I had some respect for their attendances during their years in the lower divisions.

What I also found interesting from our discussions last night was how many fans really hate the success that Man City are enjoying/are likely to enjoy because of the way it has happened. And yet not one person in our discussion would admit they were jealous, apart from me.I don't understand this as most football fans I know well are quite happy to admit to being jealous of other clubs that are succesful.

I was jealous of the success Man U (sorry, "the rags") had. I was jealous of the success Ar*enal had. I was jealous of the success Chelsea had. I'm jealous of the fact that Man City have benefited from a huge injection of wealth and have some real superstars in their team and are likely to be a major force for the forseeable future. It makes no odds to me how they acheive their success. As a fan, I want my team to win stuff and watch a quality team play quality football. I couldn't give a hoot how we achieve that. I also don't enjoy other teams being succesful, regardless of how they acheive that success. I would be no more or less jealous of City however they had got where they are now.

So why is it that some football fans can dmit to being jealous, while some can't? Does anyone have a view on this? I'd also be interested in how City fans feel about what other fans think about them. Do you care? Personally, I do care. I love it when fans of other teams speak highly of our current team and the football we play, and don't like it when people say they don't like us, or don't like us fans. Is that unusual??

Would be great if this could be given it's own thread, if anyone is interested in discussing these things.

Welcome Frosty, nice post. This thread seems to be attracting some good posters.

You're second question first. How do I feel about other fans view of City? It depends on the fan. If the fan seems to have a considered and reasonable opinion then I'm interested in it and can be affected by what they say (good or bad), but if its just some idiot venting their spleen, or some moron spewing out what they want to believe, I find it surprisingly easy to ignore them. That includes the City fans who fall into those same categories.

As for the why? Tough question, and I'm afraid I'm going to cop out and say 'human nature'. Jealousy, desire, glory, etc; all base instincts.

Like you say, much of an individual's perception of a club comes from perceptions of the supporters/manager/figureheads etc. If you knew 2 City fans and one of them was a complete tool who wound you up to the last, which of the 2 would be likely to make more of an impression on your attitudes?

Also, of course, plenty of people find having a hate figure (or several) is all part of the fun. Not really anthing to do with football, but if they are into football, they wrap it up in their personal quirks. Usually they call this part of the 'banter'.

@Frosty. Nice post when it comes to caring what people think it depends a little on timing. For example someone sharing anti city views straight after a game allot more people care in general because there pumped up from the game and still happy or hurting it applies to me to if someone comes on here talking shit straight from a game it's annoying. If an idiot comes on here airing strong anti city views more midweek I don't start foaming at the mouth more of a "meh" response or none at all from me.

I agree what you are saying about fans really not caring about how there team's get success but there is a sense of pride when its done by building up slowly and bit by bit and working up but in the climate and league we are in its just ridiculously difficult to do for many reasons. An Everton fan came on here and said that he didn't want owners like city. It made me laugh cause if Everton had our owners he would be going mental and off to buy a season ticket and put a down payment on a second one allot of fans talk shit when it comes to saying they don't want a nice cash injection.

It's an interesting topic indeed. Many fans of other clubs will care what people think. Liverpool fans pride themselves on the respect they get from opposition fans and everyone knows it, which is why this recent tarnishing is such a big story. United fans care about what others say, they want everyone to know that they're the best such is their arrogance and general high levels of ****.

However, you may find the majority of City fans aren't as bothered these days as we might have been in the past. With our rivals now judging us and brushing off every achievement we make and every record we break, we can predict what people will say, and it isn't nice. So since 2008, we've grown a thick skin to what people say. Praise is taken with a pinch of salt, criticisms are ignored.

Personally, I think I do care what people think about us. I browse through many opposite team's forums to see what people are saying about us. Though I doubt many of us are similar to me.
