United (A) Post Match Thread

Another clean sheet the only positive to take out of the game
There are more positives if you look closely:

  • Did you see that brilliant run of Mahrez (albeit only for the warmth of the dressing room)?
  • Sterling was picked on merit again for devastating recent form plus a history of heroic derby efforts
  • Foden was saved from burnout for another 90 minutes.

Our two most creative players are KDB and Mahrez. They were both on the pitch and both missed sitters
One of the worst derbies I've ever seen, zero intent to try and win the game.

However, I think that was entirely by design, we cut off Uniteds threat and didn't play into the trap that they had set up.

Too many times we've sat here and gone "we never learn and we leave our CBs exposed" but today we played a system that protected the back four and gave us some control.

I think we'll line up very similar in the Champions League.
That’s not true, there was plenty of effort and desire, we just lacked quality and a striker. There were some sublime passes from Kev today just no one there to finish them. We also faced a very sold defensive 6 who had our wingers in their back pockets. Plenty of effort just not enough quality. Sergio, Bernardo and Foden would have been perfect today. And Oh how we missed a David Silva.

We are slowly getting there. Defence is already solid. We have some problems in attack, mostly because Kevin and Raz are not in top form yet and ffs is ffs, but we will solve them over the next month imo.

Think we can win the title.

Happy for Stones. Dias too. Ferna is still quality. Jesus had the best close control on the pitch and was our most dangerous player.

Foden is starting a game every week and will gradually fill David's void which isn't easy but he can do it. Hope that Bernardo regains form.

Creating a strong team without the likes of Silva, Aguero and Kompany was never going to be easy. But it will happen already this season.

We don't play well with 2 dm's
Why can't we play our 433 that won us all those trophies.
Gutless from Pep
Also sterling and Mahrez need time on the bench, useless.

Some single out sterling, some say rodri, some say mahrez. The individuals can’t all be bad. Surely it is about the system as a whole and when the system is dependent on two attackers and no one can be trusted to hold alone it falls down. It’s unfair to blame some individuals. Once the issues have been resolved the whole team will then play better.
You've nailed it pal my thoughts too

Run? That’s an exaggeration more like a slow jog

Pep’s love affair with false full-backs and the double pivot is part of the problem. We frequently look easy to defend against and we can be terribly boring to watch at times.
