Var debate 2019/20

Its not VAR that is the joke, but its implementation

It will continue to be a joke until the the match going fans can see the replays.

You could have the high from the Sterling goal, watch the VAR review and then fully accept the decision.

However, the secrecy behind it combined with the fact that the ref wasn’t even given the correct replay for the Llorente handball shows just dodgy a system it currently is.

Personally I am still all for VAR and I am looking forward to it's introduction next year, regardless of what has happened in the CL league this season the one thing that remains is that the dippers would be at least 12 points worse off just on clear offside goals awarded. The Rags have also seen the benefit of no VAR being available this season. The issue this year has been consistancy, once it is being used week in and week out we will see the true measure

That thrill when a last minute goal in a vitally important match will never be quite the same Just think Gillingham and QPR The feeling of utter joy hugging total strangers, gone.as we all stand looking moronically looking at the linesman then the ref and finally the board First booking and sending off players for celebrating and now this lets take all the fun FFS Instead of admiring the football it will be aboutVAR and the ref And even with VAR AS proved last night he still fucked up

but we have situations now when we celebrate a goal only for a ref to blow up for a foul or a lino flags for offside - what’s worse is these refs are making decisions at times blindly guessing! That’s more sickening. At least we know they will at least take a few moments to come to what should be the correct decision. It won’t please everyone. But the current system of a ref guessing and getting zero help when the margins are so tight and you have players cheating and the crowd appealing for everything is unsustainable.

referees routinely ask for every angle multiple times in RU so they come to a correct decision. All of this is played out on big screens and the ref is miked as is the 4th official so you can here what they are saying. There is no hiding place. Why not do the same in football. oh wait........

And that’s how it should be... total transparency. My mate in the stadium was so caught up in celebrating, he hadn’t realised there was a var rule out. Should be replayed on the screen like union... even NFL advise the fans in the stadium.

There would have been a f*cking riot if that had been shown and the ref had still given the goal.

it just does not sit right with me..like the other poster said it has to be transparent,,,last night who advised the ref to look at VAR?, who are these people and how many of them?

Fernando Llorente's goal against Manchester City, Tottenham's third of the night, should have been disallowed for handball, according to Spanish referee Iturralde González. “Manchester City are out because the VAR wasn't used properly". [AS]

Iturralde : "When Çakir comes back from seeing the images he tells the players 'I didn't see anything. It hit his thigh.' They didn't play him the view from behind where you can see it hits the elbow. The error from the VAR is not showing the two key images. Why?”

Well I think we all know the answer. The bloke next to me showed everyone the replay BT were showing on his phone and you could see it was handball. This was while the ref was still looking at the screen.

Look we have been fucked over simple as that, the uefa statement about all relevant angles available for ref to view is absolute bollocks we know that they know that, they can and will continue to stitch teams up by providing which angles they want to use and ones they don’t want to use,the same will happen in premier league next season. Also the point of rolling back the video looking for a foul or offside to disallow a goal well how far will they decide to roll back, lastly if that was a certain number of other teams last night the goal would have been disallowed as it should have been for us ....

I genuinely believe Refs dont want VAR as it simply will expose a level of incompetence to a world audience. I think it is only a matter of time before the media align with the fans and publicly challenge decisions and press for it to become more transparent

Again sense being spoken by neutrals yet inexplicably there are still pompous blues digging those of us for simply feeling a bit peeved by how it was handled.

Media will only get involved if it effects certain teams..

In the near terms maybe, in the longer term I think bigger questions will be asked
Yeah maybe your right,I’m still fuming about last night, rag mate said it was one of the best games he’d seen,a cruel finish for city with the var offside, city’s defending for spurs goals poor, and sterling is for him only behind Ronaldo and Messi and by far the best player in Europe outside of them two...

At the end of the game last night, and with a hundred or so Spurs fans sat in front of me, one turned round and simply said, what a great game but VAR is going to kill the sport we love. If the powers that be continue to implement the way they do and at the speed they do, he is bang on the money

Well let’s see what happens next season, every goal we scored last night I kept looking nervously at the ref waiting for them to be somehow overturned it will kill that instant buzz or rush of adrenaline that you get when your team scores will be the same for players..
