What has the UK become?

It’s a month of events that everyone is at liberty to totally ignore and most people wouldn’t even notice it happening if they weren’t interested. Comparing it to a somber day when the head of state and other dignitaries pay their respects along with attendees at commemorations up and down the country was clearly just to provide a shit excuse for being homophobic.
It’s also an international festival.

With d-day we are paying our respects and I suppose in a small way celebrating a military victory. Pride and black history month are not only a celebration, but also for our society at large an act of atonement for milenia of normalised/institutionalised homophobia and racism. A month is the least we can do to repent for slavery and the persecution of LGBTQ community - really it should be a year round festival of contrition, and even then it wouldn't be enough.
