What is everybody's best local day out from the area

Did this for the first time a few weeks back, not so much of a view though as it was low cloud and pissing down, very sombre place indeed, especially in that sort of weather
Yes I did leave a small detail of the weather out. Plus goes without saying it shouldn’t be attempted without the correct equipment.

I also really like Salford Quays! It's really nice to walk around some water in Manchester and the large, flat spaces are great for taking our son our for a walk/on his scooter/with a football etc.

Lake Simcoe. About an hour north of me.

What is it with Canada and those chairs ?

When I lived in Manchester (1984-2007) our day trips were
1) Manchester - great museums and art galleries. Transport Museum was a particular favourite. Afflecks Palace and lunch and a pint at ‘The White Lion’ in Castlefield
2) Stockport and Altrincham - the Saturday markets
3) Formby Beach - and the chance to see the red squirrels
4) Macclesfield - the Silk Museum
5) Matlock Bath, Derbyshire - Heights of Abraham cable car
6) Warrington - IKEA. Hated this apart from the hot dogs
Loved my Manchester years and really miss that great city.
Now I recommend Wells, Somerset.

Spoilt for choice from Glasgow, an hours drive in each direction you can be in Edinburgh, the mountains or the beach.

North Ayrshire coast, looking over to Arran and Goat Fell.

Aye…..but you don’t mention the midges or the pubs with keg beer.
What’s this wonderful beach an hour from Glasgow? I have so many photos of myself and my two sisters “chittering and shivering” on various Scottish beaches enjoying the warm sea water.
The only one we ever enjoyed was St Andrews in Fife.

Lymm is quite nice and not too far from Manchester either. We went a couple of years ago and had a walk around it and the pond in the centre is really nice. We took a stroll down the canal, back towards Manchester and our son loved it on his bike. Everyone was very friendly as well, it was really nice.

We also did a bit of a scramble up to Gladdings Dam (Todmorden way) which is really...strange! It's a reservoir on the top of a 'mountain' (as our son calls it) and it has a beach up there! Honest!

It's well worth a walk up and it's totally unexpected. I know it sounds strange, but it's the only place I've ever seen a duck on the beach!

We also love Hollingworth Lake near Littleborough. I like to think of it as the 'seaside' as it has arcades, chippy, bit of a beach, play area for kids, pubs, restuarants, ice creams - everything Blackpool has :) The walk around the lake is just right and it's a great place to visit.
I used to work not far from Hollingworth Lake and would leave home in the summer months half an hour early so that I could have time to sit by the side of the lake and just breathe in the air and the view.
