Would you go Red?

The famous red and black strip which we wore when we won 3 major trophies (out of 8 at the time) ... wasn't that our designated "cup strip" for a time? There was certainly talk about giving it that status.

Memories fade but I seem to remember us playing in it at least once, at Maine Road, in a cup tie, when I was a kid. Can anybody clarify if I'm right or not? I'd be obliged as its starting to bug me!

I've no problem with red and black (actually it was black and red) or maroon as our away strip, in fact given our history of success wearing both (1956 Cup Final was maroon) then I'm in favour. I think maroon also relates to one of our predecessor clubs in Gorton so there's loads of club 'istory to both.

Home strips for me though should always be blue. Anything else, especially red, wouldn't feel right.
Think maroon is in the Manchester coat of arms thats why we had it in our kits ?

Black and Red stripes should always be our away kit - just that please, we don't need multiple kits.

My 1st kit was black and red, when I was 4 - with number 8 on the back (Colin Bell).

My kids got black and red kits for their 1st kits - like Dzeko used to wear. The red has to be a deep dark red, almost burgundy - because anything else might be United-esque.

BUT THE MAIN KIT SHOULD ALWAYS, ALWAYS, BE SKY BLUE (it is called history) and that is all I want to say on that.

They can Rakuten off the cheeky ****s. It says all you need to know they would even contemplate stipulating such a stupid clause. Watching to much bukkake fart vomit porn has the jap lad or lass that came up with that one.

I've checked on youtube:-

Wigan in the FA Cup January 2nd 1971 AT MAINE ROAD we played in Black and Red. Didn't feel right at the time and still doesn't.

No mate, it's red on the coat of arms. Not sure how or when maroon originated but it plays a major part in our istree from the 50s on.

First strip should always be sky blue with white shorts.

Second should be predominantly maroon. Or, failing that, black and red stripes.

Third kit: navy with a bit of sky blue and white.

Nothing else will do.

Light blue shirts and preferably white shorts, though I'm not against light blue shorts (first game in November '80 when City were already wearing blue shorts).

Away should be either: red and black stripes: never forgot seeing other kids in red and black striped away shorts in the mid 70s in school footy games at Primary School, and wanting one of those smart shirts.

Or
Maroon

Or
White with either red and black sash or with a light blue & navy stripes like the Nike one from 13/14

Or
Navy as in that Umbro 10/11 or last season's

Maroon is not red. Or at least it's not the shade of red worn by rags and dippers. I'd have no problem with it at all. In fact, I still miss the maroon trim on the socks (as others have said).
Red is the red rose of Lancashire, and I'm afraid there's not much arguing with that. It goes back to the Wars of the Roses (and that goes back to before Liverpool won their first European Cup, by a stretch)

How about the third strip worn in Europe made by Umbro? It was charcoal and dark blue. That was a terrific shirt.
