Indeed. I’m sure they’re quite rare but that doesn’t help those that went through that. Did anyone die (I should google it really)?

No they didn’t die but it wasn’t a pleasant experience !

What’s the latest for those who work in offices? Government guidance is work from home but our company are starting to put the pressure on to come back in and there are offices on our business park that look full judging by the number of cars in the car park. I’m going back in 2/3 days a week now and have been for a couple of months but some have not been in once and are definitely being spoken about unfavourably. One has just lost her job and I reckon it’s been part influenced by this.

Something I've been thinking about for a while but I have to ask...

They say this is a 'winter wave', and it becomes rife because of people spending much more time indoors and increasing the spread in poor ventilated areas. They also say that France and Spain are 3-4 weeks in front of us. Marseille in particular has been up shit creek for a while in France, yet the weather there is still 20degrees or such like. Its hardly winter, and although its cooler for them than it'll be in June-August time it just seems strange that the rise is as big as it is. Surely people there are still spending plenty of time outdoors or in ventilated areas? Might be a simple explanation but something in my head isn't sitting right with this winter rise affecting France and Spain before the UK?

Just curious, Where do you get these stats from? Or do you keep records.

All north Manchester areas going up.

It is hard to judge on one day as cases go up and down and then get redistributed to the actual day of the test over the next few days. These numbers are just the positive tests returned from yesterday and only some of them will have been carried out then. Some may be up to a week old as those who have had tests will know the delays.

So this can make a difference to every town's numbers and is why the government wait 5 days to give data that is then, of course, from the previous week. All the case data they showed at the briefing today was from then. Not this week.

Will post a table of these to show how it differs with the GM numbers for the first half of the list below - as in just the first five days of them as the second half up to today will not be complete for another five days.

Here are the recent GM daily totals:- 1521, 1515, 1619, 1453 1761, 1842, 2330, 2062, 2442, 2090.

That is generally an upward track over 10 days.

But you can see how those first 5 might differ when I post the cases alloted to the actal day v cases reported on that day in a bit.

masks, special distancing, r rate dropping slightly as more students have had it and can’t pass to each other. Group of 6 rule. Pubs closing at ten. Track and trace.
Would like to think with the publicity around the region people have taken more care

Great news:

A drug to stop the Cykotine response that kills so many who catch this dreadful virus.
Interesting. I have this treatment every 2 weeks via infusion to treat my bone marrow and blood condition. I was aware it was in trial for treating covid complications, but not sure how far along it had got. A couple of months ago, one of the haemotology consultants who treats my condition (and had some involvement with the covid trial I think) did a seminar and strongly hinted that the use of it as a treatment for covid related complications looked promising, though was at pains to add that at that stage it was totally anecdotal evidence.

It's not simply temperature, it's about the availability of being outdoors, so even for somewhere like Marseille if it's particularly wet (they get warm and wet Augusts sometimes - don't know if that was the case), and/or strong wind (they get quite a bit of that from the Mistral wind), it drives people inside to meet up. In the US (and Spain to a degree) the heat drove people into air conditioning, so some hot climates increased spread.

Yeah, I understand its not purely temperature related and more what 'poor' weather or extremely hot weather forces in terms of people's behavior. Could be right enough of course, I don't know exactly how wet or how windy it's been down there. Just seems a bit strange that they started this wave ahead of us, and are being hit every bit as hard. Climate thing makes sense up here in Scotland but I can only imagine somewhere like Marseille would have been having much better weather than us over past couple of months in terms of people being able to spend time outdoors.
