Supposedly 30% of the country is using the app but we are testing less than 1% of the country per day. That means the app cannot trace contact links to anything greater than that number and I doubt any large number reports their result so it's far less. You then have to consider that people only get tested when they show symptoms which means on average contacts are alerted at least 4 days too late to make any difference!Even the German Track and Trace system seems to have broken according to Merkel, they were praised for it through much of the year, and it's more "local" than ours can be (without a major rethink here), but she's admitted it's not working, with current case numbers, I'd say it's pretty impossible to fix ours, and even if it had been perfect, it would have been falling apart by now.
I think if we want to get serious about controlling this virus then the way to go is to have regular compulsory testing of a massive number of the population. After the test, the people doing the testing automatically upload the results to the app for you and there you go, everyone you've been in contact with is alerted automatically.
It needs to be remembered that if we could test every single person every single day with instant results and mandatory self-isolation for positive cases then there would be no need for a lockdown and things could go back to normal.
That is exactly what they are doing in the Asian countries. They rapidly track outbreaks in local areas, lock it down and then test every single person until the infection is gone and then they open it back up.
