Gas & Electricity

80% of the electricity produced in France is done by nuclear and the price of producing electricity via nuclear has barely gone up. We instead burn gas for electricity and gas is now extremely expensive to import.

It's impossible to cap our energy at 4% or else your energy supplier won't exist in 6 months time and the lights will go out.
That's not how the electricity market works.

The price is set by the marginal producer, that is gas, therefore all generators get that price including solar, wind and nuclear. It's not just the oil and gas industry who are making super-profits.

My bill has just gone up from 340 a month to 630 a month, I genuinely don't know what I'm gonna do, I'm just in shock, it's double my mortgage
I've decided I'm going to carry on paying what I'm currently paying (my direct debit hasn't changed yet) as that's all I can afford.

I'll just have to hope the government step in at some point although even if they do I probably won't qualify for anything, I never do.

Probably be paying the debt off for years to come but what can I do?

cancel the DD, and leave the boiler controll on hot water only, thats all we can do
It's a good idea for everyone to check their boiler setting controls.
We use a combi with settings of 50 for the water and 55 for our heating.

Main thing, don’t worry. The more this has progressed the more it feels like everyone is in it together, and that will count for something. They can’t ask for what people can’t afford. If you pay what you can afford that is what they’ll have to accept. There are already signs they will be told not to cut people off.

I’m up in April when I’m expecting it to be a real shit show, between now and then ill equip myself to use as little as possible, but not so I’m living in energy poverty. And then when they hike it up to laughable levels of money I’ll pay what I’ve been paying and hope the government have something in place to assist each and every one of us.

France EDF has had to shut down 32 of its 56 nuclear plants.

More and more noise emerging from the energy companies themselves that we could well see bills frozen for a few years and government backed loans being used to bridge the gaps.

Sure it’s a case of kicking a can down the road for the taxpayer but something has to be done as these price rises will bring the economy and society to a grinding halt if we have to face them in full.

Result! Can then ask for my credit balance to be repaid and have a good Xmas.

My nephew works in the carbon capture industry. He's about to move out of London with his family. It's pretty telling that the first thing he's in the market for is a generator as he believes, with some inside knowledge, that some power cuts and rationing are inevitable this winter.

Makes more sense, better than letting all these businesses go under.
