Gas & Electricity

I stopped listening when he was making out in favour of the anti vax conspiracy theory shit
Fair enough sir, that's your perogative.
I don't hang off every word he says, and yes, at times he is annoying.
But I've never felt he's trying to sway me to his way of thinking, sometimes I'm even struggling to work out where he actually sits, politically. I freely admit I'm a bit nieve on these matters though.
He stimulates debate, and champions free speech, which for me, can only be a good thing.
He does need a wash though, the scruffy **** :-)

All good if the room is at a temperature you can call 'room' but when houses are cold, wet clothes wont dry properly and will start to smell. My heating will be on to dry my washing only really

If it’s not raining get it out on a line for as long as possible.

Another tip is we only wash at 30c now which is an hour long cycle but for some reason the spin is only at 800 so we always put it through a further spin at 1400 before getting it out of if needs must, into our heat pump dryer.

Saves a lot of drying time either way.

Perhaps I am ignorant of the composition of electricity bills but I think they are composed of many things as well as kw hours of electricity used.
It seems that the tarrifs etc are being also increased pro rata with the actual problem ie the electricity used.
Am I wrong and have the non kwh remained constant?
I get the feeling the Gov is quite happy to get their vat income at its inflated rate for petrol and gas as well as electricity.

How dare you!

You forgot antivaxxing, Putin puppet, MAGA loving, secret right winger.

At least be accurate...

In my defence I’d say the granny killing covered the anti vax side
I’ll except the others

I see Germany have put in a programme to shield consumers from high bills. Just €65bn..
Jeez.

Problem is you start to contribute to inflation with that.

Something has to give.

He champions free speech my arse.
He’s a **** who should have gone to prison for what he did to Andrew Sachs.

What did he do to him? Remind me, as I don't remember the charge, or the court case that would have landed him in prison.
Sounds like wishful thinking to me, but luckily we don't have a judicial procedure set by armchair judges.
But I take your point, and you're entitled to express it. It's called free speech, and you've skillfully demonstrated it.
Bravo sir.

It'd have to get pretty cheap to beat 300 miles at a fiver or so a pop. If they didn't offer EV tariffs in today's climate then it'd really be a struggle though to justify even though a charge is still half the price of petrol.

My diesel costs £70-£80 to fill up at the moment, plus car tax £500 per year, servicing £300 per year.... EV's don't have any of these costs so in the grand scheme of things it's all about weighing things up.
A lot of suppliers have stopped the EV tariffs for new customers. If the kWh cost goes above around 40p, it will be in the same ballpark as running a petrol or diesel car. Filling up away from home will definitely be at high tariffs anyway making EVs only worthwhile if you can get all the charge you need from a home charging point at the off peak rate. This crisis could completely fuck over the EV industry.

I’m sticking with my diesel for the foreseeable future. What’s the point of getting an EV with all the infrastructure issues and slow charging when the economic advantage is rapidly disappearing. Drove to and from Birmingham yesterday for the match (160 miles round trip) and got 60mpg and used less than a quarter of a tank. So maybe just over £20. An similarly sized EV would use about 60kWh which would be over £30 at the new price cap rate. It only makes sense if you can get the off peak rate.

Probably different economics for predominantly city driving as EV efficiency doesn’t change much whereas I’d probably use twice as much diesel/petrol per mile driving round town as I would on a long run.

Call me cynical, but I have been wondering when the tories will create another VIP Lane for their mates (and pub landlords) with no experience whatsoever, to supply wind turbines and solar panels at hugely inflated prices to help get the country through the energy crisis??

Because the Russian war on Ukraine has caused all gas prices to rise. Renewable electricity is pegged to gas prices (yes, I know).
That last bit begs belief.

I really feel like we’re being taken for mugs.

How our governments have just let us be reliant on Russian so much is sickening.

We’re not reliant on Russian gas. We’re reliant on gas from anywhere that is being traded at an inflated wholesale price because of Russia. With our North Sea reserves it is within the power of our government to secure that gas at much cheaper rates as technically it owns it and companies pay licence fees to extract it. That would significantly reduce the gas that the retailers need to buy from elsewhere, and with an adjustment to the pricing mechanism it could be made cheaper for consumers.

The government won’t do it because it will reduce the profits of Shell, BP, Centrica and the other companies that extract gas in the North Sea. We are being taken for mugs - it’s a huge money grab from the population. Every penny we pay ends up somewhere and the excessive amounts end up with the big companies, and the government are letting it happen because they refuse to go act against the free market in any significant way.

The threat of nationalisation would probably be enough to get significant discounts to the wholesale price. Other European countries don’t have the luxury of a domestic gas source and are forced to pay the market rate. We shouldn’t be in that position.

Good lord, mate!

I applaud you engaging such an unhinged answer! Should be going to prison for an ill judged phone prank?

Good grief. no wonder society's fucked...
