Alcohol, hints, tips, advice etc.

So I’ve majorly cut down on my drinking. I’m unsure how but something somewhere clicked in my head and I’ve just done it. Due to job interviews and a CT scan, I didn’t for a week which included staying on a Friday night for once. I drank Saturday for City and then my friend’s birthday but, by midnight, I was awkward and unhappy just wanting bed. I’m going to be sober until next Saturday when I’m next due out.

I feel mentally and physically better. The weight is staying off and I’m more productive with my day. Even if you slowly begin to cut down then it’ll do you good.

I used to get cans of Kestrel Super for a quid. I'd go through 10 a day eventually. Makes you go mental.
going back a few years when i really was an utter mess,my choice was skol super over special brew ,tennents super kestreletc because it was cheaper and 10% instead of 9%. 6 of them 500ml and go to the pub at 5pm,repeated for years in the 90's and 2000's .
Iv come a long way since then.

How good does it feel to be free from that? I ended up on White Shitening. And a fucked liver. All good now, though.

drank far too much these last 2 years, Covid + personal losses, a beer or 12 eased it and gave me something to look forward to.

Off it for 3 days now, I wouldn’t class myself as an alcoholic by any stretch, but I drink too much for sure. 1st step was stopping at home, and then testing myself last night and staying home. Feel far better for it, and sleeping like a log, even with one day off.

Big birthday bash tomorrow, Mrs is supportive but I know I’ll be expected to have a beer, I’m gonna drive and deal with the “what??” Looks.

Saturday is the next big test!
Made it!

Zero alcohol all weekend, even went to the pub and sat under immense peer pressure and drank Diet Coke and water all afternoon

A mate of mine, when he had finished work, used to go into the pub and drink 15 cans of 'strong skol'.
The problem was he was pi××ed after 7 cans and proceeded to talk nonesense while he drank the rest!

My uncle had Liver cirrhosis and was in hospital for 3 weeks

Lost ridiculous amount of weight, yellow, gaunt and probably very close to dying

Roll forward 3-4 months … He’s back on the booze

Not helping himself at all.

Alcohol is a wicked drug, and addiction is horrible. I think once you get to the point of near death, recover and then get back on it there is only really one outcome, sadly.

Lad in one of my locals no different. He’s switched from one pub to another so I assume he’s been barred. Off it for a bit and drunk when I got in there 2pm Sunday. I needed the toilet so I did that and had a Diet Coke.

I’m getting bored of going out all the time.

It's what you could be doing with that time (and money!) - that's the point.

Everybody is different. I’d always fancy pizza or a kebab after beer and then go to bed on a full stomach. That can’t be healthy. I’ve significantly changed my diet too.

On a side note, some old Scouse bastard had to be physically restrained from attacking me one night in the pub after I reacted to him calling me a kid. I’m 43. He’s easily 60. Someone dragged him out and told him to fuck off. He’s in here again now and is yet to make eye contact. He’s pissed as a fart again and just staggering out constantly to go and smoke.

I’m not going to do anything as it’s obvious he’s little more than an alchie wreck. Drink really can bring out the worst in people.

Beer/alcohol gives you a false appetite, so you feel hungry even though it's not necessary to eat.
A friend of mine used to eat something light like a sandwich or egg/cheese on toast when he got home to stop this false hunger.

Another reason i had to quit,
1 in ten times i would do.something
totaly the opposite of my true nature, and i would.be horrified the next day and could.not.believe what id said or done.
It was getting progressively.worse with me too,in my youth id get very drunk.but never caused trouble.

I am proud of myself for.realising my growing problem, and stopping.the initial.cause of why i was doing it,ie drink.

another good and positive reason to quit.

good luck.everyone
