PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

Why are Arsenal a "heritage club" and the likes of City arent? In what decade does a club become a heritage club?

You have to bribe your way into the top flight a la Arsenal or be found guilty of match fixing a la The Rags or Liverpool. Look close enough and the establishment are grubbier than the rest of us….

And here is the crux of the matter.

A handful of clubs engineered the game to suit themselves and believe nobody else should have the right to challenge them.

The so called Sky Four - who thought they could have CL qualification every year, unchallenged and the other 16 teams would happily sit back, hand over their best players when requested and happily make up the numbers…. Then we came along. Didn’t Big Nose Thompson once say City have stolen Liverpool‘s Champions League place!

Associated? That's a can of worms they don't want to open... pretty much every team will be guilty of 'associated' sponsorships... United only got Chevrolet as a sponsor because of their American owners... Leicester and King Power... and god help Wrexham if they get to the PL - ALL their current sponsors are 'associated'!

Let's face it – at all levels of Football, clubs have 'associated' sponsors... If I had a company successful enough to be able to afford to sponsor a PL club, I'd pick City obviously... likewise, company's from Abu Dhabi will want to sponsor City because of the links to their country... Saudi company's will do the same with Newcastle etc.

Quite - won’t Nike be associated sponsors for Liverpool and Chelsea.

I think thats the issue rival fans have. The Football played on the pitch seems to be downstream from who your owners are. People havent gotten bullish on Newcastle all of a sudden because they have a young Messi in their youth system.

That guy in the photo (not Charles), is the most influential football figure in English football for 30 years, even bigger than Ferguson. He has basically torn up the landscape of the English football landscape.

The counter argument is that the heritage clubs get overturned and it allows clubs like City and Newcastle who historically found it hard to get/stay at the upper end of the table. However in doing so you become the very thing you complain about, by becoming a modern super club with infinite wealth to maintain high standards.

I think a European salary cap needs should be introduced across all major leagues. The best players can earn their money from image rights rather than salary from clubs. Or move toward a Bundesliga model with majority fan ownership of clubs.
You make a fair point on salaries but there is nothing to stop the heritage/cartel clubs from running their businesses properly. United have spent more money than City but run their club's infrastructure into the ground; Liverpool FC have won one title in more than 30 years (you can't blame City for that); your own club has made disastrous recruitment decisions for years and had no succession plan to replace Wenger.
City are not and have never been owned by a state and don't have "infinite wealth." Sheikh Mansour bought City for £210m and the club is now valued by Forbes at more than £4bn. He has made at least £500m profit on other investments in Manchester itself (that doesn't even include the new music arena) and more than £1bn profit from his investment in Barclays Bank. The press coverage about City is full of distortions and lies.

Thankfully this hated of us hasnt caused any violence away from football.........yet.......but I have started to think twice about going out with anything City on which is sad.

I get the look of you cheating bastards but nothing is said on the whole. Do get the odd wanker shout.

The press/media need to be carefully when building up this hatred that it doesnt turn violent.

Most fans of other clubs are fine it's the dippers rags that are twats and gobby

There is a complete media pile on going on at the moment and do wonder how City are thinking of dealing with this.

They have been absolutely correct to not say anything and let the arbitration take its course no matter how long it takes. But it does feel like it’s turning more toxic than at previous points.

Maybe it will blow over in a few days - but the current pile on is including every media outlet, not just the usual WhatsApp gang. So I wonder if Sorriano or Khaldoon will have to come out and say something.

Or will it be left to Pep at the Cup Final presser - cause you know what will be put to him then !
You can be sure that this pile on is being driven behind the scenes by other PL clubs, notably our commercial rivals, namely LFC, MUFC, Arsenal, and of course our old pal Daniel Levy. The other factor is that we are the ONLY PL club supporting the Government's plans for an Independent Regulator which would strip powers away from Richard Masters and his little group of pals. They are fighting for their careers.
These stories don't happen by accident. Somebody told Martin Ziegler at the Times about our legal challenge to the entire process of the PL's FFP investigation. City's legal strategy is confidential commercial information. The latest pile-on is designed to de-stabilise our club as we approach a possible Treble. It will only get worse.

And Arsenal and Villa and Leeds and Spurs .

People who say City/PL is boring could not be further from the truth. There is a wider story here that is utterly compelling and will stand the test of time. The current war between us, the PL and the old cartel is for the future direction of the sport and also has geo-political ramifications such that it transcends the sport itself. When the dust settles, and the war has been won, there will be a huge appetite for the inside story and documentary series will be made about it in years to come.
I bet other clubs fans wish they were as boring as us.

Don’t know whether it’s been asked yet?

How have the PL been able to level the charge of false accounting? What have they seen in our accounts that is false? To make a charge they must have seen something, they can’t have just made it up surely?

I understand the other charges around Mancini, Image Rights and failing UEFA FFP but surely they have to have seen a problem in the accounts to level that particular charge?

Confused.

In my memory it was always the sky 4, I am still baffled to where the fuck this big 5 bollocks has been made up retrospectively to include spuds?

That's an excellent question. I'm going with "they made it up". ;)

Listen to talk shire for a laugh on drive to Filey, if I was given a £1 for every time the number 115 was mentioned I’d be able to pay for a season ticket
