The Derby Post Match Thread

The issue I have with 'The missing players' is that all teams suffer a similar fate during a season which is why we have squads. Yes we are stronger with Aguero and Silva, but as I keep saying surely we should be able to adequately replace them whilst keeping a similar formation with the squad we have.
If everyone is fit and we play a 4-2-3-1 we have Silva, Sterling, de Bruyne, Nasri, Navas and (depending on where you think he's best suited) Toure to deploy as attacking midfield players. In the defensive 2 there's the two Ferns, Delph and Toure. That's more than adequate strength in depth.

Up front is the problem but you won't get a player at or close to Aguero's level to sit on the bench waiting for an injury to get game time. I hope Iheanacho gets a full game on Wednesday so we can see what he can do in a competitive scenario.

I think this thread has some interesting comments about our style of play. Some call it pragmatic which it was and sometimes you need that as shown yesterday. Perhaps at times Pellers should have shown more pragmatism over the years. However despite my reservations about Pellers and the next level, I think yesterday gave us an idea of what football would be like without our attacking mantra. I missed our attacking style yesterday and could not watch that kind of football week in week out. Thought it interesting that the players missed our attacking style yesterday as well. Be glad to get back to our wonderful exciting football. I get what Pellers means when he says he does not like to win ugly even if at times it's required.

Fair result. I'm happy with a point, and now were back at the top.

I have slightly mixed feelings about our tactical approach to the game, can't help but think we would have gone for it if Silva and Kun were available. I suppose it's a shame that the gaffer doesn't have enough trust in the others, to win it by playing the style he always tries to encourage.

Happy with a point though, and happy that VK is back.

Chelsea fans have had to watch that for years. Mind you, not this season — it's far more exciting for them.

It's not necessarily about getting a player at the same level as Kun.

It's about getting someone with a similar style or someone who suits the teams strengths.

Players like Mane or Berahino would have been better suited to our style and possibly cheaper as well.

I've said it before but Bony is a good player but I believe he was signed with our formation being 4-4-2 in mind.

If our intention was to play with one forward then I don't see how Bony in any way fits that profile.

I also don't see what Bony offers in the way of a plan B. At least with Edin he could score headers. I wouldnt say Wilf is the most prolific in the air.

The ideal scenario would be to use him in that Pirlo role like the Ivory Coast do. However that would mean him playing deeper than both Fernano and Fernandinho. I just don't see that working with Fernando.
It could work perfectly with Delph though. But the problem then shifts further up the field. We'd have no width unless we benched Silva or De Bruyne, which can't happen.

Don't feed the troll.

People are saying we did well considering we were without two players Mancini and Cook bought years ago. We've spent a few hundred million since so that really shouldnt be the case. Fact is under this management we have only bought one player that looks like he will improve our team (KDB), the other (Dinho) was already in place under Mancini.

I'll accept your rescinding of the warning as an apology.

Simply put that shower of shit couldn't play much better (which begs the question how are they so high in the table) whereas we didn't get out of first gear. They hit us with pretty much everything they had and their only shot on target was in the last few minutes. If the deluded turtle thinks they had total control of the game then the Priory better reserve a bed. If that was against Juve and draw would see us top the group everyone would have said what a professional job we did.
Well it depends what people think "controlling the game" means. I thought the rags DID have complete control of the match. The way they shut off every forward pass and restricted space meant that we had to either lump it forward aimlessly or pass backwards. We did this for 90 minutes, purely because the rags had us under control. So looking at it objectively, the tactical turtle is pretty much right. They didn't batter us, they probably didn't even deserve to win, but they did have control.

Good to see us looking more solid. It was a back to basics performance really and it got us back to the top of the league. It was a little worrying how poor we were in possession the second half and they were starting to get on top but we steadied the boat. Pellegrini managed the game pretty well and made the correct substitutions. Our best performances we largely in defensive roles - Kompany and Otamendi looked good together, Fernando played well and Hart made a cracking save and looked alert. Going forward, Sterling didn't offer much, Bony had a decent first half but had no service in the second, De Bruyne was terrible apart from the one delightful flick to Sterling in the second half and Yaya is looking like a spent force at this level. Overall happy with a point and it gives us something to build on going forward.

For that to happen and be fully effective we would have to bench both Silva and De Brunye IMO.

You need out and out wingers for that to work.

Although;

------------------ Yaya ------------------
---------- Dinho ------- KDB -----------
Navas --------------------------- Sterling
-------------------- Kun ------------------

Could be very interesting. But again that means leaving out Silva to accommodate Yaya. Something which IMO should never happen.

Was the Arab guy dressed all in white with big sunglasses? If it was he's from Algeria and had a season ticket for years.

I don't think so mate, he was wearing two scarves. One red and white and a half and half scarves and was getting stick from a few blues on the concourse. Must admit I hate to see those stupid scarves

Fair enough mate, the lad I'm on about wouldn't been seen dead in a half n half scarf, but does like pics taken with opposition players and managers(he's weird like that lol)

It was good to see us playing a different way in my opinion.
If we ever get to the later stages of the Champions League we may have to play more defensively so it was great to see we have it in our locker.
It was always going to be hard with Silva and Aguero missing.
Take the 2 best players out of any team and they would be struggling.
Bale and Ronaldo
Messi and Neymar
Hazard and Costa
No team has replacements for when these things happen as they are the best at what they do. So to go there and restrict them to nothing and come away with a clean sheet, still top of the league and the next game against them at home I’m more than happy!

Can someone tell me if the one that hit the bar was Rooney offside I was at the match and thought he was and I haven't seen MOTD

No, Kolarov had a brain fart & decided to suddenly play everyone onside. What the fuck he was doing, I have no idea, but that it gone in, the torches & pitchforks would be out today, with some justification. Ridiculous defending.
