20 years since City’s first match at the City of Manchester Stadium

A completely new area of Manchester for me and fellow Yorkies. Went into the Jolly Angler after the game and used that pub through until lockdown. Sadly it never reopened. Always good company and a great pint.

    Paul Hince

A bit late to this thread so apologies if this has been mentioned before. I remember Paul Hince fondly especially for his dislike of the rags. Always knew him as "sixer" but cannot remember why. Anyone else recall this? Possibly a cub/scout thing?

    Bobble hats....

I've still got my rattle from the 60's decorated with City programme heads. First rattle was a single but soon moved up to the double. Remember arriving back at Victoria from away grounds, very noisy in the tunnel which was there then. First memory of a rosette was wearing my Dads from the 55...

    Boxing Day Trains

Thanks. It's the only day I ever drive over from York for a game so thought I'd ask. May as well drive all the way rather than just to Leeds. (Always assuming there might have been a seat available!)

    Boxing Day Trains

A rather belated response (still celebrating victory over the scum at the sty!) but does the coach from North Yorkshire come anywhere near York?

Where you watching the game ? Are you on the ale yet

Cock & Bottle in York. Expecting a good turn out of blues from 12 noon. Only ever a few plastic rags in a good City pub.

    City in York

Should be a good turn out of blues in the C & B later. 12 noon opening.

    City in York

Cock & Bottle on Skeldergate, always some blues in there for televised away games. Can't comment on home games as most are season card holders.

Champions League Final | Where are you watching?

Appalling planning on my part, can't blame Mrs BMTJFY but I'll be in the middle of Exmoor. (Exford) Hopefully the pub wifi where we are staying will support BT on the lap top. Don't think there is a pub within reasonable travelling distance that will have the game on.

    Maine Road or Etihad

Not sure where this is leading but no, never have a halftime pint. Meet up with a City mate from the 60's. The Kingsway was obviously my local but never went in before I was 18. My Dad used it as did other pals Dads. Used the pubs on Stockport Road near to Albert Road. Played darts on a...

    Your First Derby Game

Wasn't my first derby but remember one from the 60's at the sty. 3 or 4 of us with our united pals all together in the Stretford End. I could check this out but going from memory definitely a City win with an Alex Harley winner at the opposite end. Much celebration by us very young ones! I do...

    Maine Road or Etihad

I remember well the big Culvers garage, lived opposite the Kingsway Hotel for many years. Watched City home and away plus reserve and youth games. Basically anything at Maine Road. Moved to London in 1969 and then to York in 1974 (and yes I was there in the Family Stand) Part now of a good...

    Dave Wagstaffe RIP

Sad news as we start a new season but two great City wingers now up there together again. Seem to recall that through the junior sides Neil Young was a year or two behind DW so could always play on the left. Nellie only switched to the right when they both hit the City reserves/first team. Happy...

Upgrade to Empty Seats Around the Players Tunnel for Norwich

You must have been at Ladybarn when I was at Burnage Grammar(58/64). Moved away from Manchester in 1969. Not many blues at Burnage but went everywhere with the Trimble Brothers.

The Flag (Watford) after the game.

Similar story in the Bree Louise near Euston Square. Disappointed blues but a good sing song and all friendly though not many Wigan.
