Its your opinion and you are entitled to it obviously.

Bearing in mind the time he has been at the club and trying to acclimatise to the new set up etc, were you expecting a world class performance ?

It is the expectations and impatience of some posters which always disappoints, but sadly are all too frequent on here.
I wasn't expecting a world class performance. I wasn't expecting anything, it was his debut after all. I just think his style, as of now, will be unsuited to us.

But Pep and the coaches must be confident he has the tools to adapt.

That is highly likely imo, as he will have had an input into the signing.

Yes, let us just kick Doku out and bring back the world beaters Cancelo and Palmer. As a reminder, it was the FIRST game for a 21 year old kid, and he was a starter, in a new city and new life. Importantly, with a team that just won everything and currently is the best team in the entire world. Loads of pressure. What should we expect? He is no Maradona, Pele or Messi. He is fucking Doku, so just give him a deserved chance. Same knee-jerk reactions to some of the new players who, for some unknown reasons, don’t appeal to our experts on BM? That is one reason I am always grateful that this club is not run by our BM experts.
He is young and therefore he can learn and who better to teach him than Pep. He has the natural basics he just needs time, patience and a chance to learn, if it works it works and if it doesn’t we move him on.

People really knocking the lad on his debut.

Get fucked the lot of you, absolute morons.
It’s more that everyone is overreacting, both for and against him.

He’s young and he’s not used to our system. He didn’t have the best of games, but we saw he can beat a man and cross a decent ball.

He will obviously improve, but if this was the first sighting of him playing football, then he’s not as silky as most of our wide players have been for the past 3 or 4 years.

No one is piling on him nor writing him off, merely commentating on what they saw today.

You know what Doku looks like?

A 21 year old in his first PL start with not even a single training session with his actual manager in person yet.

Give him a break.

He lost the ball 2-3 times in that first half but skinned his man twice and out dangerous crosses in. If Foden had controlled the second, one he would have had an assist. He’s growing in confidence in the 2nd half.

Doku exceeded my expectations in the first outing. I thought he was a speedster but his control is quite nice, passing as well. He will settle in quite well in the team.

The only positive from his performance today was that he can take a man on and beat them, unlike grealish.

In his first few games he needs to just do the simple things. Trying to do the fancy trick in the first half when we weren't winning isn't the way to go about things
His biggest strength is dribbling and taking on his man, I don't mind him taking risks.

Not good enough!!! He should have won the Champions League by now.

You can't judge anyone on one appearance. Mind you Oscar Bobb looked pretty good in his ten minute cameo. Let's wait and see, We have got some great young players.

I'd disagree.

He was pretty dynamic and had a positive impact on the game. He was fouled three times, without giving away any fouls, he made more tackles than any other player (all successful), and only Dias may as many interceptions.

He had a reasonable number of touches, not far off Alvarez and Foden, and he had a pass completion rate better than Foden, Alvarez and Haaland.

Bear in mind that he was also playing in a side with Walker, Foden, Alvarez and Haaland, who are some of the bigger risk takers in the team.

Definitely lots more he could do, and certainly we'd expect him to be providing in attack, but a lot of that comes down to how much he knows about the other players.

We had 112 pages of comments slating phillips in his 23/24 performance thread before he had even stepped on the pitch during the 23/24 season, this is somewhat encouraging in comparison. Sadly we have more than our fair share of cretins on here as with any other fan forum.

The only thing anyone needs to know is that Pep and the staff were impressed enoguh to start him. They could have easily played Bernardo and Foden, but they saw quality in training, something that never happened with Phillips. Even with Palmer, if he was still here, I am sure Bernardo would have started 100%.

I liked the left footed cross first half-ok it was a tad over hit but that he can do that with either foot augurs well.

Got pace to burn and offers us something different in attack. Like most players needs time to settle and understand how we play before we see the best of him

I was in 101 5 rows from the front today.
From down there it’s like being in a big bowl filled to the top with people and must be quite daunting especially on your debut and also you are suddenly playing for the finest team in the world.
He looked a tad nervy but also looked pacy and remember Pep hasn’t yet put his arm around him and whispered into his ear.
looking forward to seeing how he develops.
