He has been a good signing overall. Which is why he deserves less criticism than Grealish.

But i think giving him that new contract was a mistake. It makes it hard to shift him, and unless someone is willing to take Grealish off our hands. We might be stuck with the wing options we have for another season or 2.

What?

Mahrez has won four Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the League Cup three times, and captained Algeria to victory in the 2019 African Cup of Nations. He's a Champions League runner-up and has scored 4 goals in Champions League semi-finals. He's played over 200 games for City, scoring more than 60 goals. He's made over 250 PL appearances in total and has notched 78 goals in that time. He was the top scorer for last season's Premier League champions, he's won Premier League POTY and African FOTY, and he's widely regarded in Algeria as one of their greatest ever players.

He's not in good form this season and I think he needs phasing out but to act like he's never been any good is beyond preposterous.
Chill out it's New Year's day.
Tongue in cheek n all that.
Bet your little pinky's have cramp now after typing all that.
Hopefully you'll find a better sense of humour for the remainder of 2023

On the balance of what he's contributed since arriving, you have to say he's been a success; albeit a moderate success. But there's just something about him, as a player, that I can't warm to. Maybe it's because he's so one-dimensional, which is unusual given Pep likes his players to be adaptable and comfortable in any position. He's so powderpuff, there's no explosiveness about his game.

An average signing for me.

Wont be too bothered when he hangs up his boots at all....

Sublime skill but not got the application, heart or desire to go with it.....Give him the fight of a David Silva for instance and he could have been held in regard at the same level....but he is nowhere near that for me.

Wanted to sell him last season but think he will stay to see out his contract unless PSG are tempted

Putting in slide tackles and running like a headless chicken doesn’t make you a world class player.

He regularly covers the most distance on the pitch.

He puts in defensive work, he’s just not very aggressive. Yeah it’s annoying but think about it. He doesn’t injure himself trying to tackle someone, doesn’t get carded much.

That sort of sums up my feelings towards him.

I might get crucified for this but Riyad is *effective* even if he's not flashy except his first touch. He can dribble, he can keep the ball, he can set people up.

The only thing is he goes through periods where when one thing is successful, he goes to it too much and becomes predictable.

Sorta like his first season sucked till the last day when he adapted and made a fool of the defender and padded the then 1 goal lead with a brilliant dribble and goal.

He learned to use that and had very good 2nd, third years for us where he took us to the CL final, in the 4th year (last year), he was the leading scorer and pen taker but he became predictable by always cutting inside.

That's why his season sucked till he adapted and showed a different side in the last game. As long as he keeps adapting he is effective!

I've always thought Mahrez and Laporte get unwanted hated, they're both really good.

Mahrez always worked good in tandem with Foden, Jesus and KDB. Currently KDB is in a funk, and Foden is being rested and Grealish isn't getting goals. Which means Mahrez and Haaland will get double teamed. Need 1 other player fit and firing and then it'll unlock the others!

Frustrates the hell out of me but nobody can deny his contribution to this club. Big game player, and one of our few natural goalscorers. Just keep him off penalties.

Played pretty well when he came on but our goal was all about Jack's pass.

So since the restart he has scored against Liverpool, got the assist against Everton, and scored the winner at Chelsea, he should've had two assists against Leeds too with better finishing, all that despite having no RB to overlap, keep it up Riyad.

Forget the goal I was more impressed that he still wanted to close down the keeper late in the game - this is the desire we need added to his talent.
