Arsenal Thread 2013/14

Does anyone else suspect the reason Arsenal bid £40million is because Liverpool said £50million so they know full well they won't get him and just pretend to be spending big (like they said last year). I wouldn't be surprised if this was just some weird ploy to sell more season tickets before they shout the whole 'no value' shite again.

Massive bid!

I think in fairness to Wenger the celebrations at finishing fourth last season were a reflection of the long-term significance of that event.

I think he got the nod that a CL place this season in conjunction with their capital commitments on the stadium significantly diminishing, was a green light for him to start spending some fairly serious dough. Their top four finish has cemented Arsenal's place among the new 'Big 4', not that Sky with ever refer to it thus. As a slight aside, notwithstanding our inclusion it was a little dispiriting to see those journalists in the Mirror the other day (with one exception) predict the same top 4 as each other for next season, just in different order, as was the case with united, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal from 2004-2009. I'm glad we're inside the tent, but it's not good for the game and certainly isn't going to be reversed under FFP.

Arsenal will be able to fend off the challenge from Spurs and Liverpool with relative ease going forward and could have a serious say in the title race from time to time. This state of affairs would have been far less certain if Spurs had finished fourth. To me last season's race for fourth was a seismic event in the medium and long term battle for power in the English game.

Their methods have been questionable and their history is littered with more skeletons than any other big club, including united, but in terms of making the most of the hand they've been dealt in recent years to the furtherance of their club's strategic interests, Arsenal have completely outflanked the hapless FSG and the overly cautious Daniel Levy.

This top four will become even more calcified than the previous one and Arsenal have now cemented their place in it imo.

If you think Liverpool fans are bitter now, see what they're like in five years, those of them that are left that is....

This, from the moment FFP was announced I thought whoever made top 4 in the year or so before it came into effect would be the top 4 essentially forever, especially with the new TV deal.

So not only have we ruined football we have ruined computer games as well!!!

Gooners getting giddy - gotta laugh!
This will end one way... with Suarez going to Real Madrid! They'll use the money they get for Higuain to fund the deal, and boom... two unrealistic Arse targets fucking gone!
Wenger will end up putting in an eleventh hour bid for someone like Odimwinge.

Not only that, it seems that billionaire owners are ok as long as they can't be arsed investing any of their own money into a club, or even take money out of it. However, a billionaire owner that goes to the trouble of investing considerable sums of money into a football club is an evil that should be stamped out.

You really couldn't make this shit up.

I see arseholes have put in a bid of £40 million for a player. Can someone explain how this is a 'good' thing for football?

Once they pay off their stadium they will outspend chelsea and city within 4-5 years. I think they will spend 80m a season easily if they wanted and still make a club profit

I've never known a set of fans with such deluded self entitlement.

I remember hearing a guy on a phone in a few weeks ago bleating on about city paying players £200k a week, interviewer pointed out that Terry Henry was on that 6 years ago, guy replies, "yeah but he was good"???????

Deluded, pricks who like to think they can look down there noses at the new kids on the block. They forget that 10 years ago they were paying HUGE fee's fro Henry, Veirra, petit, overmars etcetc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etcetc

Unlikely. Paying off their stadium debts would increase their profits, but it won't increase their turnover. Their turnover for the season just gone is lower than the two clubs you mentioned. £80m a season? Possibly. Outspend City and Chelsea? Not on a regular basis.

Liverpool's owner rejection of the bid was 'what have they been smoking at the Emirates?' I take that's a no.

That was J.W.Henry.

Someone tweeted a reply:

'This coming from the man that paid £35m for Andy Carroll'

OUCH.

I'd go with this starting 11 this season -

Szczęsny
Sagna-Koscielny-Vermaelen-Gibbs
Arteta-Wilshere
Walcott-Cazorla-Podolski
Giroud

really hope carl jenkinson gets a chance, looked good when Ive seen him play and imo better than sagna. Good to finally see some english players, same cant be said for newcastle who only seem to buy french players now
