No, some fell through the cracks and the government should have reacted to that for the second lock down. Again though it isn't a difference.
just as an example anybody registered self employed for less than 3 years could not get grants along with many others . more fell through the cracks than you might think.

I am going to take at face value that the people currently posting about our children have a genuine concern for their wellbeing. Can I humbly suggest that those wishing to support our children divert their energies from concerns about children wearing masks (for which studies have identified some specific point issues for consideration but no obvious global crisis) and consider lobbying their MP around some of the following issues:
  • point out that the main thing the pandemic has done in relation to education is highlight that whilst most children are weathering the storm, the children who were already the most disadvantaged children before the pandemic are the ones who in many cases have suffered the most and fallen further behind. Encourage them to support longer term recovery funding and support for our most disadvantaged children. Ask them to prioritise addressing structural inequalities in education as key to sustainable levelling up.
  • the reversal of cuts and improved funding for mental health services for young people, recognising that the evidence suggests that early interventions yield the best results for the individual and could also save the nation lots of money in the longer term.
  • support for consideration (or at least meaningful political discussion) of improved regulatory powers (and capabilities) with respect to social media firms especially in relation to use of their products and services by young people.
If you really care about the nation’s children, I truly think any one of these would be more valuable use of your time than getting upset about mask wearing.

well you keep burying your head in the sand thicko! just ignore the untreated deaths such as cancer heart disease not to mention suicides because of lockdown! now who is the selfish thick bastard?

Just on this point, non covid deaths would have been much higher had we not locked down and slowed the spread at certain times. It’s an argument that actually supports additional curbs, not fewer.

Okay I'll acknowledge, there are some daft quotes from people out there That I wasn't aware of, I still don't think most children know of them any more than I did, the fact is there were accusations of masks damaging children and it being likened to child abuse, accusations that children were told they were killing their grannies. It is nonsense and bollocks being used to justify some adults own predjudices., not based on reality.

the reality is some children will have been affected by what’s been said to them and the restrictions they have faced plus the more limited education experience. Some it won’t bother and they will just get on with it.

in the same way in a few weeks some people will be more anxious and nervous when all the restrictions are lifted and some people will be happy .

people are a bunch of individuals and it impacts us all differently .

Almost like whatever we did, some people would have been affected and others not. Just different people.

well yes but rather than arguing children are affected or not and it’s all fine it’s easier to acknowledge that some children will have been and some won’t. That is the reality. I guess the question is one of degree.
Indeed, but by not locking down other children would be directly affected by watching their grandparents die etc.

It isn’t as black and white as being discussed.

I would guess that the worst impacts have been on those in the most vulnerable circumstances, for instance those shut in with no escape from their abusive parents.

Yes ,because that was directed at young school children. Children well known for reading the Times, Sky new Reuters. It isn't what they were told by their parents and teachers. The people they actually listen to. You still haven't said whether any children have told you they are mentally scarred by bing asked to wear a mask. Because I haven't met a child, a parent or a teacher that has.
The children are fine, its adults trying to invent issues for them thats the problem.
Where have i said they’re mentally scarred? Don‘t make stuff up just accept you were wrong. As for, ‘it isn’t what they were told’. It was on every news channel so, if their parents had it on, they saw and heard it ffs.
The pictures were just meant to display the hypocrisy on show of a row of adults with NO masks standing behind a row of kids ALL wearing them. If you think that’s in any way normal, that’s your business, I suppose…
I could just as easily have shown the world leaders at COP 26 behaving one way whilst telling everyone else to behave another way but hey ho.

206 all settings deaths down fron 303 last week

66,638 cases - down from 68, 214 yesterday & 88,171 last week

England only fall by one third over the week in case numbers.

From 77,189 last Thursday to 53,993 today.

England hospital numbers

Patient numbers fall by 337 to 10,734 V 12,423 last Thursday.

Every region falls today - most London by 89 to 2122 V 2370 last week

But NW close behind down by 85 to 1562 V 1898 last week

Unfortunately North West seems to be going through the legacy of its high cases 2 or 3 weeks ago with the most hospital deaths today (43) and the region with ventilator numbers rising most. Up again by 5 today to 59 V 47 last week.

Yorkshire and South East both fell. The others mostly flat.

As a result of all this (hopefully only a few day long legacy) total ventilators stay at 384 and numbers over the past week show this fattening off to some degree being tied into the NW death numbers peaking a couple of weeks after the southern regions. Cases did this and now ventilator patients are too.

But 59 is still below where NW was 2 weeks ago (62) and every week before then for
months.

Last 5 days ventilator numbers in England are:- 391 - 395 - 385 - 384 - 384.

It was 429 last Thursday.

This is why handwringing over “a death is still a still a death…” is now pointless.

I’m not sure why the Express refer to the reduced mortality in January as a “Bombshell”. Wasn’t the weather pretty mild in January? Aren’t the vast majority of people just getting on with their lives and there are virtually no restrictions?

It’s a strange choice of word in the headline yes but the point is that it was unexpected given half the country just had covid. Either way it’s good news.
