Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

Still think we'll not see any meaningful football until the Euro's next summer (if you can call International football meaningful).

Just read that Norwich, Newcastle and Spurs have all applied to claim the government led incentive to pay 80% of staff wages. Some of the behind the scenes staff I can understand, but even for their players apparently too.

If true, that's shocking and they'd have my vote for automatic relegation on that basis alone.

Even if it is just the behind the scenes people it is wrong. The money the government are using is our tax money. Daniel Levy, took 7 million pounds out of Spurs as payment for running the club last year. Let him fund his clubs workers. I am not just attacking Spurs, it goes for all of them. Mega rich owners should fund their club not me and you.

If that is the case (& I don't believe it will be) then there will only be a relative handful of clubs right across Europe that will still be in business.
I can see what's left of football being a mess mate.

The last game I saw live like a lot of us was Wembley, it's a sobering thought that even with our money, we don't really know for certain if even City will survive.

That does sound proper doom & gloom but it's really 'how long is a piece of string' with everything not just football at the moment.

UEFA have relaxed FFP rules to help out their fav history clubs,we could get some money in but we couldn't be sure they wouldn't find a way to screw us over after

UEFA want to complete the Champions League in August - and are considering a mini four-team tournament for the semi finals and finals in Istanbul and Gdansk for the Champions League and Europa League respectively.

UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin is determined the Champions League and Europa League games go ahead with fans and remains opposed to having the finals behind closed doors
