De Bruyne?

Injury prone.

Get out City while you still can! Crock! He's a crock!!!

(I'm all giddy again, I hope Pogba get's a bruised foot aswell!)

Please let this be a sign that a deal is imminent. I want Pogba as much as anyone but if we can get De Bruyne in I really won't be too.bothered if we miss out on Pog.

I agree BluePhil8....if we can get De Bruyne done, it will take a bit of the pressure off...both are important to our long term plans but I see a team with De Bruyne, Sterling and Delph in the starting line-up, a big improvement and more than capable of getting the prem back this season...this week should be interesting!;)

I agree, KDB would be enough to win the league. His goals+assists would take the attacking pressure off Yaya, so I don't think he would need to get forward so much and leave us vulnerable defensively. Add in Delph as a much better 3rd choice in midfield which means we should be able to rest Yaya like the 32 year old he is instead of playing him for 90minutes 2x a week.

We'd see Yaya at his best much more often - That on it's own would be enough to win the league back. Pogba would elevate the club to the next level, but brings some serious selection dilemmas as well, and balancing that squad will be difficult.

I too feel that De Bruyne is the key signing. His creativity is exactly what we need and long term he can help cover Silva. With Delph added to the squad we have a lot of energy in midfield with him and Fernandinho and if we played a midfield three then Yaya would have more freedom to do what he does best and we wouldn't need to rely on him coverind defensively. Long term, Pogba would be a fantastic signing but for the season ahead adding De Bruyne would be more than enough to challenge on all fronts and Yaya could be utilised in a much better way than we saw last season.

That'd be my only concern if we get Pogba aswell. It would seem like Pogba and Yaya would be fighting for a place alongside Fernandinho or Delph who would be doing the same. Putting the two in alongside one another would be tactical suicide.

Don't get me wrong there will be a hell of a lot of games to be played so they'd inevitably get more than enough minutes but who's no.1 in the biggest matches? Would we spend £70m on a lad and then have him as Yaya's backup, or do it the other way around, buy lots of cake and hope for the best?

That's what I worry about as well. You definitely can't play Pogba-Yaya as a midfield 2 in any semi-serious game, Fernandinho or Delph needs to be there to give it some semblance of defensive stability. So either you bench the £70m+ signing (not going to happen) or you bench Yaya - likely to make him unsettled and also insane given his wages etc.

The other option would be to go 4-3-3 and that means dropping Merlin (not going to happen) or a £50m signing in either De Bruyne or Sterling.

It's going to be a managerial nightmare unless Yaya knows he's likely to be on the bench a lot, and knew that when he decided to stay (I seem to remember he was 90% likely to leave at one point according to his agent).

But as they say in football - what a problem to have! Fingers crossed it's giving Pellers a headache this time in 3 weeks!

The thing is, £7m/£70m, at their best Yaya is a better player still so it kind of nullifies the price tag.

You bench Yaya and you use him in a different role. Yaya cannot play in a midfield two, but should we want to then we have options to play that formation if Pogba arrives. Yaya is capable of coming on, as Lampard did last season, and making an impact. In a midfield three then Yaya is more than able to play a key role. You don't choose not to sign a young talent like Pogba because someone in their 30s might be unhappy about it. Yaya will flourish alongside Pogba. I think he'll have a really good season. He's been told personally by our Chairman that he's wanted, he's seen that we mean business and he should have a renewed desire to play for the side. Being able to rest players at times will help us compete over the course of the season.

Don't forget injuries, when does any club ever have a fully fit squad? and suspensions.

There are a whole range of options to fit them all in as well.

That's great news sounds like its happening sooner than later.
One good thing about Tolmie posting on the relevant players thread is at least we know what he's on about!!!
