Edin Dzeko (continued)

I've criticised him at times but last night he showed us all the player he can be.

He plays the lone striker role better than Sergio or Negredo. He is less effective as part of a two man attack because when the other striker goes searching for the ball he holds his position, is easier to mark resulting in him having less of the ball and becoming frustrated.

Truly Love this picture...... Just look at Camelgob in the background, it makes the picture even sweeter haha.

If you're on about the one where Dzeko has just scored off the corner where rio was supposed to be marking him, well at least rio didn't have a boner this time

That's some leap.

I am neither his biggest detractor nor am I his biggest admirer, but I never did get why he was on the end of so much abuse –especially here. If you think about it, he was instrumental in one way or another in virtually every bit of silverware we’ve won in the last few seasons.

Anyone who saw his pre game interview would know he was bang up for this one - when they asked him about the game he said 'we're ready' with this knowing smile! Loved it!

Fastest goal against Utd , ever. Edin broke a record. All the knobheads who used slate him must feel really stupid right now.

All hail King Dzeko !

Thats the badger.... that picture speaks more than a thousand words! Walking around the shops this morning, mingling among sullen rags, I just felt exactly like this picture!

There was obviously the Spurs game when Dzeko scored four, but that game alone apart I think last night was Edin Dzeko's best game in a City shirt. Even when we have been putting five past lower league teams in the carling cup he hasn't played as well as he did last night. Brace of goals, put a huge shift in, won most of his aerial duels, held the ball up and used it intelligently.

Fantastic effort.

Edin Dzeko - don't let him think

I like Edin Dzeko, i'll get it out there early, i think he's a decent striker but that, for me, is exactly what he is - a striker. Not a winger, not a forward and not much of a midfielder. The lad is a striker.

Edin's banged in 20 for the club this season (60 in 3 yrs and 2 months) and he gets some decent stick on here for one reason or another - primarily to do with his touch and retention of the ball.

I'll agree a little bit, he is slightly ponderous if caught 40 yards from goal facing back towards his own half but then, as i said, he's a striker, not a ball playing midfielder. Here's how he operates;

Of Dzeko's 20 goals, 16 have been 1st time hits (including 3 headers). Of the other 4, all 4 have been short 1st time touches to get the ball out of his feet and then quickly finished. None of his goals involve more than 2 touches.

That is very telling. The lad is a natural box predator - in fact he has scored just once outside the 18 yard box - and he revels in cut backs and quick crosses. He has now scored 14 in a row with a 1st time hit, nearly all with the side of his foot.

For me this says play Edin high up and constantly feed the ball into his feet from wide positions. He is returning goals even when he looks a little dejected - more proof it comes naturally to him.

For a 3rd choice (apparently) striker, he is brilliant and we should fully get behind the lad. To sell him would be madness.

Re: Edin Dzeko - don't let him think

I agree, I also like the lad but he does piss me off quite a bit though. doesn't stop me from liking him though!
