Fish And Chips

The hardest decision on match day is do I stop at Tony’s Chippy Ancoats or Maine Road Chippy across from the stadium

Having had the misfortune of getting fish and chips from a chippy in Padiham near Gorthorpe Hall in Lancashire recently I'd like to retract my statement above. It was rank, sloppy, grey, vile shite.
I’ve had battered halibut with chips, both fried in beef dripping from a chippy which is on another planet the stuff served at 95% of the rest.

I agree most of the industry is a race to the bottom, in terms of produce, oil, condiments and packaging, but there are definitely outliers out there.

Which planet and how long did it take to deliver them.

Tiny little one on the corner? If so yeah, very very disappointing. Everything was grey and sloppy including the batter and the peas were just a grey puddle of water. Utterly shite.

I’ll take your word that it was an off day. I’m not local to the area.

The best chippy near the ground is mandarin court on Wilson St

Also Hong Kong Take away fries the chips so you get that proper chippy taste of batter with them

Yeah that’s the one pal, Gawthorpe hall is beautiful mind so at least it wasn’t a total disaster for you ;)

Just about to derail the thread.

Best F & C in the world without a shadow of a doubt are made in New Zealand. Always, and I mean always, made fresh for you. You walk in tell them what you want and it is made individually for you. Yes you have to wait but they are always wonderful. I think they always use a beer batter for the fish. Always real chips.

It is a very strange country because we have been in some very nice restaurants and they tend to give you cooked frozen chips. Most odd.

If you have never been then you should try to go to NZ at least once in your life. They are renowned for their pies. I swear you have never seen as many different pies as they have in their pie shops: must be at least 30 different types.

We go to this one in Hayfield because it's consistently alright without being fantastic.

Not sure if consistently alright without being fantastic does it for me

The best fish and chips I've ever had was on a P&O Cruise Ship... Iona

They have a fast food outlet called the Quays and they did the fish and chips with mushy peas and curry sauce... Absolutely sensational ... went back a few times and had it

We're on the sister ship Arvia next month now SWMBO has been cleared to travel and can't wait to see if it's as good
Nearly as good as that Katsu chicken thing they do
