Gary Cook Gaff (Merged)

Re: Gary Says Sorry

It looks like a planted story to me, the other Mirror piece is more the "we know you don't want this made public, but we're going to take the piss anyway".

Re: Gary Says Sorry

apology accepted, just, but im a big fan of Cooky, he's done brilliantly since he joined, so lets just move on now

The interesting thing about the slip up is that someone at the do was desperate to get the news out to the media. Were the Mirror there? If they were, fair enough but somehow I doubt it. So that means that they either picked the story up from the fans or someone else who was at the do.

That's worrying, not because of Garry's slip up, but because it shows that some people are determined to get negative stories out no matter what. Next time it could be something much more serious or damaging to MCFC, not to an individual's reputation for speech & language skills.

Years ago Billy McNeill made a similar slip when he was at a supporters' meeting. He said: "It's great to see so many Celtic fans" Obviously he meant City, but it's worth pointing out that the story of this cock-up actually appeared in City's programme as a bit of a 'whoops!' type of comment. It was supposed to be lighthearted but it did damage McNeill's reputation with some fans who thought his cock-up was a bit more deliberate than a simple slip. It was a simple slip, but it haunted him from time to time.

Often it's not the slip ups that are the problem, it's the way some people report them.

There were loads of media/press people there Gary.

If I hadn't been there myself I would've felt exactly the way that many people have perceived it to be on here-a slip of the tongue that's been blown up into something it isn't.
It was just that the whole evening had been built up to a point,Gary was giving a rousing speech,Uwe was beaming, and then he dropped an almighty,jaw-dropping bollock that totally trashed the moment.

I hope it's confined to history now.
But dare I say it.....Gary Cook, welcome to "typical City."

;-)

I agree Gary.
The guys made an honest slip up at a private do, yet here we are less than a week later and it's national. If you are willing to look past the suit and the wage, then you will find a real person who like many has made a cock up and that is all. Some of the stick the guy is getting is beyond a joke and makes us ALL look like bitter bastids.

Re: Gary Says Sorry

I am on the fence with regards to Cook.

I admire a lot fo the things he has tried to do with regards to making the club more accessible to fans. But on the other hand, he has made some poor public cock ups and is a bit too keen to be in the public eye for me.

But, regardless of all that, anyone can make a slip of the tongue and it's not a big deal. Who cares? Its not great, but stuff happens.

fuck both of you this **** needs to go, its not ONE slip of the toungue you fucking baconface loving rag faced **** if you read the OP like you SHOULD hsve done coming onto this topic you would realise that but oh no lets read half a story

COOK + HUGHES OUT

What a delightful turn of phrase you have in addressing fellow blues (or fucking baconface loving rag faced ****'s as you like to call them)! Given an opportunity to sit next to either of you at the match, please can I have the company of the fucking baconface loving rag faced ****'s, both of whom have over 4000 posts to their name, as opposed to your 90-odd! In fact, even if they were fucking baconface loving rag faced ****'s, I think I'd still prefer to be in their presence rather than yours.

I hope this post doesn't upset you too much when you get home from school this afternoon.

The Manchester Evening News would've held of publishing anything like that, given our links to them.

so they wouldnt of rang or mentioned it to their mates in the press also they havent gave us much good press lately

cook deserves everthing he gets imo
Do you ever say anything positive?
What's cook done to you? He wasn't inducting you into the hall of fame - Uwe wasn't offended and took it in good humour - shame some on here can't see the funny side of anything now.
Must be great to be perfect

Re: The Trusted Mirror Has Reported The COOK Gaff! Getting......

Anyone who seriously thinks that there was ever a chance of this not getting into the press needs to get a check up.

It would be reported about any club. It gets more high profile coverage because City and United are so high profile.

I'm not that bothered by it, its a slip of the tongue - although Cook does need to get rid of these constant blunders and stop being so keen to be in the public eye imo - but to suggest that it being reported is some sort of conspiracy is just daft.

If it was the other way round and a rag had done it, or even if it was a Scouser or someone else, I would be loving it and taking the piss for weeks

Re: The Trusted Mirror Has Reported The COOK Gaff! Getting......

I think its called reporting the news. You know something happens. Print story about it. Fairly common apparently.

Cook made a gaffe. Got a load of abuse. Papers have a laugh at his/our expense. Cook apologises. Cook's bosses take whatever action they see fit. We move on. The End.

Every football function I`ve ever been to at City or elswhere for that matter there is a chorus of boos whenever United are mentioned it's called humour and banter. Man up and tell us your real reasons for wanting cook out - is it really over something as trivial as this?
or are you just an extra sensitive soul?
I was in hospitality on Saturday and can tell you Uwe had a fabulous time and he and Cook got on very well - he could quite easily have avoided him or not joined in with the laugh they were having, but being a strong character with a sense of humour he didnt crumble like you seem to be.

A marketing LEGEND like Gary Cooke gets his BRANDS mixed up!!!!!?????? PMSL!!!!!!!!!

Jesus... if he was still presenting in the US for Nike still and he stuttered, "Please see the new ADIDAS Air Jordon Pro Max 2000" his bollocks would be in a sling flying back across the Atlanic in first class, while he was in Economy with his P45!!!

But that isn't his biggest mistake.. backing Leslie after last season's disaster is that by far....

He tries to MARKET our Rolls Royce squad to the world, while still allowing what is akin to a 17 year old chav and his mates take the wheel in the shape of Hughes, the two Chelsea goalkeepers and the Norwich left back...

The BRAND has to be right before you take it to MARKET it Mr Cooke... That includes a TOP DRAW manager...

As painful as it is to say it.. That's what Baconface is.. maybe that's why you got the BRANDS mixed up...??

A simple mix up?? Forgetting the fact that this guy is on a package of about £1million per year at least..

How many times have we as fans been asked.. "what team to you follow?" Have you ever said "Manchester United" in reply..? No, I thought not.
Pathetic !
I wonder how long you'd have given Baconface to get it right?

i suspect every other event you were at were united was mentioned it was a joke and not a complete fuck up at such an important time of the event/speach and to go on as if it didnt happen

btw time to schroll back through this thread or even this whole board for that matter and find somewhere that i have said i wanted cook out

Re: End of Gary Cook

Stupid mistake but seriously, some people need to get a little perspective. He mis-spoke, became acutely embarrassed by it and then compounded the mistake by not dealing with it then and there. Yes, it wasn't exactly his finest hour, but in the grand scheme of things so fucking what?
