Gillingham v Manchester City 1999

There. In the Gillingham end till the second goal. In a pub somewhere in Wembley for the second half of e.t. and penalties. O me of little faith, but it was a lesson learned for the QPR match.

I was there with my lad. When Gillingham's second went in he zipped up his jacket expecting us to leave. I told him that if the rags can get two goals in injury time (CL final a few days before) then so could we and that we were going nowhere. Of course he was chuffed to bits when we won. Quite possibly the most exemplary bit of parenting I've ever done.

I did the same with my mate for the QPR game. He was stood up wanting to leave but I refused to let him pass! I kept saying remember Gillingham, remember Gillingham. Eventually he sat back down and he's eternally grateful to this day!

Watched it in the dragon in Whitefield and then celebrated in moon under the water in town.
I just remember half the pub singing who put the ball in the Gillingham net pauly pauly dickov.

i was there ..only trip i made to the old wembley , i was 8 years old and i went in a wheelchair with my two uncles and my paralyzed cousin. Jumped out of the wheelchair a few times as you can probably imagine.

Ticket office said if you buy season ticket for next season you can also buy a Gillingham tkt,so I bought one for the North Stand happy days, that was my 8th final at Wembley watching City 69,70,74,76,81 twice,86 and 99.

Remember getting to Corley services on way home and everyone walking around like Zombies , think the day had drained most of us!

I was one of those walking round in a daze emotionally and physically drained at the services. I was driving that day!!!!!!

I was on a school trip in Anglesey and my dad drove from Manchester to Anglesey to pick me up. Then he drove on to Wembley for the game - and because of extra time and penalties, we drove back to Manchester for the night. He then took me back to Anglesey and headed home...

He did about 800 miles across two days...

Years later, I interviewed all the team from that day for a book: https://davemooney.co.uk/books/looks-like-scunny-next-season/

If you want a copy as a Christmas present for someone, I can get one to you before the 25th if you order by close of play on Wednesday (first class) or close of play Monday (second class) in the UK.
