I think the sometimes excessive criticism comes as a direct push back against the pretty gross overhyping of him that's gone on since he started doing well at Dortmund, and certainly has ramped up exponentially since the Madrid move and all the Zidane noise started.

He is good player with some high quality attributes and a lot of flaws. But it's harder to judge him objectively because of the hype train around him. That's not all his fault but he's got a lot of maturing to do still, no matter how much his well spoken interviews convince the Bellingham lovers that he's mature so far beyond his years it's crazy.

It's mainly because he has a reputation as a world class player he really doesn't deserve and the way he seems to constantly court criticism by throwing his toys out of the pram with monotonous regularity.

He gets the media coverage of a player who is in the footballing worlds top 10 but he isn't anywhere near that.

Every decent young player is hyped nowadays but tbf the lad has backed himself, left the UK to go to Germany at a young age, smashed that move and earned himself an insanely lucrative switch to La Liga. Fair play.

A lot of them are but some are more dislikeable than others.
Some of the Madrid players seem to be ok like Rodrygo, Modric and Courtois but Bellingham is up his own hole.
Even Mbappe smiles occasionly.

I'm not doubting his ability but I can't stand the man, particularly when he's on a losing team.
He's not quite a Rudiger or Vinicius Jnr. but he's doing his best to catch up with them
