League Title or CL Final?

Clough, Paisley and Ferguson all said 'League' when asked the same question, in Cloughs and Paisleys time of course you had to win the league to have a do at the tournament football that is/was the EC

Perhaps it's my Stella Artois addled brain but why should there be a choice between the 2? We have a strong squad, despite what the doom mongers in the meejia publish regarding injuries.

Let's go for it in every competiton.

As Marvin Gaye would say "Let's get it on"

Let the others worry about us.

Champions League because until we win it, we'll never truly be classed as a major European force. If we'd already won the CL then it'd be the Premier League every time because that's our bread and butter.

CL title, it's the one we need to bring us close to level with the 'big 3'.

Not to mention we have strengthened significantly this year with the likely hope this quality will boost our chances. It means a lot to most players as well.

If it's a Fairy Godmother question, then the PL. In all honesty we should be winning the PL this season, as everybody else is dross, with the possible exception of Arsenal, if they could convert more of their chances. Chelsea are already out of it, and United are shite. If we missed out on it, a CL win wouldn't be much compensation for letting a shit team beat us to the PL title, in my opinion.
If we were currently in Chelsea's position, I'd take the CL and 2nd in the league. As would they, I suspect!

Being the best team in the Premier league is one thing, but being the best team in Europe is another. From a purely aspirational/achievement point of view, winning the Champions League is a different accomplishment. You have to do well over 38 games to win the league, but really to win the Champion's League you only have to 'win' a minimum of what? 4 games? assuming you get to the last 16. I'm not diminishing it at all, but it's a strange dynamic to win a trophy.

No brainer for me, easily take the league.

No one remembers who made an appearance in the CL final unless they won it.

You'd have to have a screw lose if you'd rather take an appearance in the CL final over a PL title.

Winning the CL though? That's a whole nother question, and a more difficult one to answer.

In all honesty, I could remember that Juve lost in the final, but had to use Google to find the winners! Knew it was one of the Spanish giants, but couldn't remember which one. I could tell you who won it in the seventies, though.

CL losing finalist? No brainer - League every time. If the choice was winning the CL final or the league, then that's more tricky, and I'd probably have to go with CL winners

League always. CL is just a shinier FA Cup.

No. CL is the ultimate competition in club football and the standard to measure where a club stands in Europe. Whether we fans hate the CL or its seedings is irrelevant.

Of that 19 teams, none of them are as good as Bayern, Madrids, Barcelona, PSG and the likes. It's a different game winning against those top teams rather than defeating 19 inferior teams. Just what we found out having played 4 times against Barcelona. Haven't managed even 1 win, not even a close competition in any match. Winning 4 such CL games is worth more than winning against 16 dross in the PL.

Can't argue with that. If you want to be considered the best at 'football' you have to beat the best and win the trophy. We know how to win the Premier league, but beating the 'super' teams is something else.. and you have to beat 1 or 2 of them to win the CL.

League. I have more invested in the game every week for 38 weeks over a cup comp where the best cheats win.

League every time for me - shows you are the best team after a long hard 38 games.

After the last 16 in the CL it is all about luck of the draw and some luck in games.

Thanks for putting me in my place. ;-)

CL means little to me sorry. Maybe when I get bored of us winning the league year on year out and build up s tolerance to the arrogance and disrespect of European clubs and fans ... also the intimidation by police and idiot ultras. The CL has been a massive let down off the field as well as on it.

Domestic football is being among family. CL football is being among snobs who despise you because you don't belong.
