Middle East Conflict

Yeah the oppressed, the used, the victimised, have always throughout history have risen up and thrown off the evil ones....

For fucks sake.
I did mention the Bar Kokhba revolt against the Romans. They didn't throw off the evil empire. And that led to the Diaspora.

Unfortunately you’re not wrong Hilts.
But there’s the hard part that should no longer be shied away from in bold above.
That’s the hard part, that the current leadership will not put the hard yards on.
Where would The North have been without the likes of John Hume?

I do think internationally that the world should not so much be pressurising Israel, but offering them an alternative and also actively getting involved in promoting democracy to the Palestinian people.

What do I know however, less than yourself I’m sure.

While I get the comparisons with NI it doesn't relate though to the aftermath of an event like Saturday nor the players, for want of a better word, involved.

We don't need to be heads of state to come up with ideas on solutions. They will be helpless as the rest of us. One thing I agree on is the ongoing total support from the UK and the yanks is not something I'm comfortable with.

What justifiable action would you expect? and remember you have to put yourself in their shoes. Turning the other cheek was obviously a no go and I believe if what's going to happen happens it will be catastrophic not only for the innocent civilians in the area but for other countries as well.

I think once Saturday happened this has followed an inevitable path. If there is a way out I have yet to hear it. It's easier to say what people shouldn't do but coming up with a solution needs to follow. I believe an unimaginable amount of people will continue to die. I don't see it going any other way. I hope I'm very wrong.

I have seen a few people say what did Hamas expect and ultimately the answer is it would have been exactly this, as you say it’s an inevitable path. In war, the last thing you ideally want to do is anything the other side see as inevitable.

Found this an interesting read on why this might be exactly what Hamas (and Iran) want -

Yet again what's the alternative acceptable to the Israeli population.

I still can’t get over that grant Schapps interview.

He attacked the BBC for following OFCOM rules (so presumably he didn’t know the OFCOM rules)

He couldn’t pronounce Hamas right for the first 5 minutes (but then changed)

He claimed he’d seen videos of babies being beheaded even though the Israeli government has now come out and said that didn’t happen.

And he couldn’t answer a single question about even the most basic things.

I think it’s one of the worst interviews by an MP I can remember and he’s the fucking defence minister!

And he's our Defence Minister, Hard to believe. All he was interested in was avoiding answering a question and laying into the BBC. I mean I'm convinced he wasn't aware Hamas had only been on the Terror list for 2 years.

What do you mean?

The Israelis have told everyone to evacuate in 24hours and the international community is gradually pointing out there’s

1 - Nowhere for them to go
2 - Not enough time to move that many people
3 - Israel has shut down the mains water so they can’t leave leave the few places that has water.
Thanks, I managed work all that out for myself.

I was referencing the fact that Shapps said those words (Michael Howard style) each time he was asked if 24 hours was sufficient to evacuate a million people, which he never answered.

For those unable to appreciate that, I was basically saying that he is a fucking ****.

He was taking the piss out of the amount of times Schapps said in the interview that the Israelis had provided notice in advance
