Delighted with and for Zinchenko. The one extra thing that I’d love to see him do is run directly at goal and shoot low and hard.

We have the passing game down and get around the outside well but we need some battering rams and imo they should be flying fullbacks.

Pep said recently that he hopes that Zinch long-term future was at City. But we are also considering signing a left-back in the summer. We know he was willing to let him leave last summer to Wolves.

Does that mean that Pep might play him in midfield more often in the future? Since another LB signing would severely limit his chances at LB.

I'd love to see what he could do, honestly. Some of his passes and crosses have been sublime recently.

Not if mendy isn't avail

I hope we give him a new contract

He deserves it. He has sacrificed his own natural game to help the team, barely ever been rewarded by a chance in his own position. It would probably take him time now, to re learn it.

It would only be fair if he was rewarded.

But some players have to go, to make space for the new signings & I'd be surprised if he's not one of them who gets flirted.

Playing really well at the moment and made up for the lad. At LB possibly still a bit suspect against a top quality winger, but he is our best option currently whilst Mendy is still injured.

So it's not a shock for anyone, to find Pep playing a midfielder at fullback, as you are suggesting, as we saw a whole season of it.

He was playing Leroy Sané as wingback in his first season. That also cost us a goal or two.
What? So many people on this forum said Pep wouldn't play a midfielder as a fullback, and a small minority said he would, your simply ignoring the facts here.

Sane played as a wingback less than a handful of games and it didn't work so he stopped doing it.

Pretty much nobody said that, as they all watch football & Pep has done pretty much every strange thing possible.

He played Kolarov at cb & Sané wingback, straight away.

Agree to disagree here, as I and others remember arguing with people about this.

In fact I'm not even sure what your point is, that Pep does experiment with players in other positions I'm guessing? Yes that is true, I wasn't even arguing this lol.

That it was a huge surprise.

It wasn't. Most people expected all kinds of stuff happening.

If you want to argue that most people didn't think Zinchenko would make a fullback, that's fair enough. I still don't, he's a midfielder playing fullback to me & we are fighting through it.

Okay I understand what your argument is (we got there in a roundabout manner). Again, disagree regarding people on this forum regarding fullbacks.

Zinny has done great as a fullback and I think he can only improve there, you only have to consider how well he has done in this new role and how young he is. Imagine giving him 2 more years in this role to fully master it, can be amazing.

He has done brilliantly but he has also been responsible for quite a few cockups which mainly seems to be down to his lack of appreciation of defending.

It's not impossible he could learn it, but he also lacks pace & defensive technique, even yesterday, was left easily on about 3 or 4 occasions, which Otamendi etc cleaned up.

His football skills are now coming through & rather than just knocking the ball around, he's creating stuff which is probably at a higher intelligence level than Mendy can produce, but Mendy (when fit) has that pace & power to go with a vicious cross.

I hope we don't replace him with Ben Chillwell as the only advantage I can see there is that he's bigger. He's nowhere near as good a footballer as Zinchenko & not a great defender.

But if Pep is going to sign 3 players, one of whom is a fullback, I don't see how that's possible with Zinchenko staying. We won't have squad space.

Who would you like instead?
