UK Supreme Court decisions giving ‘troubling impression’ of successful political pressure

Giving a verdict doesnt mean the same as informing the public, if LPKC is being truthful in saying there is no verdict yet and Blackstone and Clifford Chance recieved it today, there would be weeks in distilling decisions, formulating press releases, potential dmage limitation, and decisions on next steps before we all get something concrete.

It’s not what he said, it’s the fact he responded about a huge confidential matter to a random member of the public

You think it’s ok - I don’t. Am I allowed to have an opinion ?? Or have some of us got to keep quiet in here?
You are absolutely right mate. There’s no universe where a KC should be updating a random member of the public about the status of a case.

On the Today programme on radio 4 this morning they had a number of people on talking about the collapse of the Chinese spying trial. They were staggered it collapsed so late and a couple of days before it was due to start. Their assumption was this was down to the is government stepping in at the last minute.
Which is exactly my point, our trial didn't collapse.

Not really. It isn't that big a deal. It is surprising he replied but he gave nothing away save to confirm that there isn't some big conspiracy and that the parties simply don't have a decision and don't know what it will say. Refreshingly frank.

If there had been a decision would he have said to anyone asking him or emailing him “decision has been made it be out in the next few days”?

Have you actually read the spy case allegations. "Efforts to obtain that evidence were made over many months, but notwithstanding the fact that further witness statements were provided, none of these stated that at the time of the offence China represented a threat to national security,"

"Now that's not a political to and fro, that's a matter of law. You have to prosecute people on the basis of the circumstances at the time of the alleged offence,"

It is the opposite of a retrospective intervention.

And if the best you have is a headline from google from 2022 and a case from today (that you haven't even understood), then I rest my case. But great if you believe the whole thing is going to mysteriously disappear in the next few days - you will be able to gloat and I will celebrate with you from the stands.
