Player topic: Frank Lampard (2014/15)

Re: Frank Lampard (staying until end of season confirmed P11

I am completely and utterly embarrassed by the behavior of my fellow New Yorkers today. While I understand the frustration I cannot condone their vitriol towards Manchester City. Not all New Yorkers are like the fools you're reading about. Please don't dismiss us all. Some of us are long time supporters and are thrilled to have the City brand here in America.

Cheers and happiest of New Year.

Don't worry, I think we know who these people are, and I doubt many of us think they are "New Yorkers" in general.

Several of them will be crying over conceding 5 goals tonight that's for sure.

Frank Lampard just embarrassed himself with this decision. He has disrespected the club he promised to commit himself to. Whether he wanted to stay at MCFC is not relevant -- he made a committment to NYCFC. As a result, he will never have the support he could have had from NYCFC fans. This is not the way business is done and this kind of thing will not sit well with New York sports fans. There is nothing mutually beneficial about this relationship. The decision is more upsetting for the precedent it sets.
Actually its totally relevant, and you'll see him a couple of months late, coming to you hopefully as a Premier League winner, though I suspect you may not like that if it happens.

What makes you think NYCFC fans care if he is a Premier League winner? What exactly is so beneficial about him staying at MCFC? He'll be coming into the MLS midseason at 37 years old without a break in years. You can keep him.
We may just do that.

Fuck you. :-)

You are a total irrelevance.

Rational point of view. In the end as supporters of any club you simply get behind your team and the players playing for you. It could be that whoever takes Lampards' spot on the team turns out to have a great season and be a key player and if a US player you may have greater affinity with him.

I did think the most suitable all round solution was for City to keep Lampard until mid February when Toure returns from the ACON and then let him complete pre-season with NYCFC and then start the MLS season from game 1 one March etc. So do think City have made a PR error here, but as I said simply best for any NYFC fans to cheer on their team and enjoy the season, you never know how things may work out and the link with City over the next few years should be beneficial to NYCFC even if some fans feel that is not the case at present.

Good luck for the first game v Orlando and then for the rest of the season. her's hoping for a League double (English Premier and MLS).

Re: Frank Lampard (staying until end of season confirmed P11

While I'm delighted that Frank will be staying with us until the end of the season, I am more than a little uncomfortable with the situation.

He - along with David Villa - is NYCFC's 'franchise' player and is probably the reason some NYCFC supporters have bought season tickets.

Still, if Lamps helps us win the win the title, especially if it's by one point, and upsets the eye-gouger in the process, it will be well worth it.

Perhaps they will and perhaps it could be considered buying a championship but last year the final was Salt Lake vs. Kansas City. That would be like Burnley and Everton finishing top two. This year, Toronto spent a league leading amount of money on their squad and didn't even make the playoffs. So its definitely a tough thing winning an American title. You know who is actually a good coach and who isn't real easy here.
Your ignorance is truly astounding, I can honestly tell you don't watch much football. Because it's a 'level' playing field you know who the 'good' coaches are. Funnily enough you can tell that in football in Europe as well. You're trying to argue about football with fans who watch football week in week out. Just enjoy whoever you get to see play over there, your club exists because of us, and for god sake you'll get to watch David Villa week in week out... He's won a world cup you know.
Without knowing much about American football, I think he's probably right. After all, how many teams at the start of this season had a realistic chance of winning the Premiership? City and Chelsea. In Germany, it's nearly always Bayern. In Spain it's a two-horse race.
Which of those two horses won last year. I can't remember.

Re: Frank Lampard (staying until end of season confirmed P11

As a City fan I'm delighted he's staying, of course, but I do feel bit sheepish about the circumstances. I would like City and City players to behave as classily as possible, and this leaves a slightly sour taste in the mouth. I can understand NYCFC fans who are very disappointed. Imagine Aguero being loaned to Barcelona for a season (or more?) just after he signed for us...

While of course we all have the same owners, football's more tribal and parochial than that - I can't blame anyone for feeling bitter about it.

But he's staying - woohoo!

We don't have the same owners.

Manchester City own 80% of NYCFC.

The point is that if you're a NY fan without much interest in Man City and have shelled out for a season ticket on the understanding you'd see him play the whole season, you'd be disappointed if your owners put their interests before yours. As I said, I'd rather our players and our club behaved with as much class as possible. And I'm still delighted he's staying.

Re: Frank Lampard (staying until end of season confirmed P11

It's interesting how the media has changed from saying we have him on loan to saying we signed him on a short term contract and he is our player. It's clear the club has briefed journalists to report/clarify this but it does beg the question 'why now?'.

We've had all sorts of fairly libellous stuff said and written about us circumventing FFP rules. But the club hasn't done anything to clarify it. Even us fans were under the impression it was a loan. They allowed that misinformation to become the accepted story. The whole thing is very strange. Being cynical it could have been simply to help promote the new club.

Re: Frank Lampard (staying until end of season confirmed P11

What bugs me about all this is City being seen as the big bad wolf who stole a player.

Its plain to see that after a short stint at our club, Frank has clearly changed his mind and wants to stay at City..

If that is his decision, then nothing else matters..

People change there mind, thats life..

Good point but cynical not sure about that as City couldn't have foreseen the injury situation that has meant we needed to keep Frank longer or how successful Frank could still be. It was only a short term purchase so maybe it wasn't necessary to correct the media. Still I know what you mean, why now?

Re: Frank Lampard (staying until end of season confirmed P11

Good news for City.
NYCFC....couldn't give a shit.

Re: Frank Lampard (staying until end of season confirmed P11

Let them keep David Villa there.
Frank is doing his part here very well, a very good professional role model for younger lads too.
Maureen must be spitting feathers that he went on a free !!
More of the same please Frankie lad!

I want to finish however with a different complaint.

I have mentioned before about how Man City appear to have found a loophole within FFP by having Lampard bought by the club their owners control (New York FC) and then loaned to Man City.

Mourinho was asked about this and said: “Lampard? They can bring any player from New York FC. They can bring anyone and nobody will stop them. ”

OK, it wasn’t as strong as I would put it, but the man has spoken out again, and that must be applauded. Let’s hope Uefa will note Fifa’s ability to stand up to Barcelona over child trafficking, and will themselves have no difficulty in standing up to Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Re: Frank Lampard (staying until end of season confirmed P11

Arsenal have absolutely nothing to complain about when it comes to Lampard except maybe why Wenger didnt try and sign him on a free when he was available.

This stuff is kind of hilarious. Lampard was a free agent and so any club that offered Frank the right wages / opportunity could have signed him for free. The only way there would be any sort of FFP dodge is if NYC have agreed to pay him a signing on fee; we are paying his current wages.
