PSG vs Istanbul Basaksehir suspended after 4th official accused of racism

Back in the 60/70's when there was a lot of racist language used casually within all forms of society (media, entertainment, schools, workplace, I've mentioned before I rode a pony called N****r as a child in the mid sixties) it was later deemed more polite to call non white people coloured. In the 80's this became an offensive term and quite rightly we now call people by their ethnic group, Black, Asian, Chinese, Japanese or South East Asian, it's not derogatory but some people who are quick to jump on the racist bandwagon are now offended by the term "black person" in regards to last nights incident, it's absolutely ridiculous, where do we draw the line?

"Non Caucasian, non Asian, non South East Asian, that's the guy I meant to point out" or do we just say "the "black guy" ffs, world has gone fucking bonkers.

Yes two points to make on this: 1) some years ago I heard the film Director Peter Jackson (LOTR etc.) was planning to re-make the 1950s British War film the Dambusters, with all the latest modern effects - I believe there was even a script written by Stephen Fry. It never got into production and I guess possibly because of the name of the Squadron Leader's dog (it was run over on the day of the raid) & was the same name as the horse you mention. There was actually a bit of a kerfuffle in the summer when a gravestone on the RAF base was replaced removing the name and replacing it with: 'The Grave of a Black Labrador Dog'. See: https://www.lincolnshirelive.co.uk/news/local-news/gravestone-replaced-guy-gibson-dog-4333794

2) Yes - I have always been taught that the politically correct term for someone such as Demba Ba is 'black man' not as some people in the older generation might incorrectly say 'coloured' yet weirdly, there is an organisation - the NAACP, which stands for The National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People!

It is all getting so confusing and actually, especially with kids, a bit fucked up. I work in an educational role and not so long ago was covering WWII - the home front: evacuation, rationing etc. I was trying to explain about 'spivs' and the 'black market' and as soon as I said that the muttering started (racist....racist.....) Some are always looking to be offended & be 'the victim' so I agree with your post 100%

First of all this referee has some real issues. Some years ago he tried to commit suicide, so here is a real problem. He made a mistake, he should come out and apologise, and that's the end of story. I don't want to say it, but knowing him (yes, I know him personally), this will finish badly for him.
I’m not even sure he’s made a mistake.

If you do know him and you’re correct then I pray that he doesn’t feel backed into a corner and there isn’t a vicious witch hunt.

Maybe people should think twice before screaming in someone’s face when they haven’t understood what’s been said.

I am no racist by any means (that's before the disgusting racist-labelling people start)

But this 4th official described a black man as a black man, and that is racist?

If we're going that way then I hope ethnic minorities describing me as a white man is equally racist (along with longpig and gammon which I am fed up of being labelled as.

I am all about equality and we're heading towards inequality with some of the stuff nowadays.

Equality is where we should be headed.

It's about time we were all just designated a number which we will be known as, all culture to be abolished and your history erased. There should be no exceptions between number 1 and number 7,000,000,000 race and gender will be irrelevant because we will all be the same.

So say we all.

Care to explain exactly what you mean here?
I know for sure that he tried twice to commit suicide, based of what media said regarding his performances as a referee. He was even institutionalised. This are real dramas, not calling a black people black. Some of us are not so strong.

I can

I can accept that he made a mistake, but everything should finish now. This is turning into something way to big.

Exactly, but it didn't stop the one with mouth of camel on BT jumping in last night and proclaiming how bad things are and that there needs to be more education, before he even knows the details.
Think he should off expanded on Cavani remark, but that to close to home, or any backing up for his brother maybe,
Did neither.

And he appears to have got away with it anyway, Bernado will be puzzled.
Kick it out are hypocrites, after the Bernardo shit,
They really did go to town on the lad.
They've spoken out about millwall fans
But still jackshit about cavani.
Lots of Tweet about speak out..

Well said. Still seems unclear what exactly was said, and in what context, so probably best to wait for the facts to emerge before jumping to any conclusions. Presumably UEFA will be holding an investigation, although given their track record that doesn't necessarily fill me with any great confidence.
He said 'ala negru' - which literally means: 'the black one'. Negru is the romanian for black colour.

Both Jonh Barnes and Micah seem to think its not racist to describe a person by their colour! JB says they are asking people to call them “Black” Im a white guy so to be honest i just dont know what to think anymore.

I do know i go to China/Asia with work (or did) and im forever known as “Gweilo” aka Ghostly Man which is most likely a derogatory term for Westerners. I dont get upset by it, but guess some might!

Kick It Out calls for FA action against Bernardo Silva over Mendy tweet

Kick It Out said: “We are extremely disappointed to see the tweet posted by Bernardo Silva, which has since been deleted.
“Racist stereotypes are never acceptable as ‘banter’, and we’re shocked that someone who is a role model to millions has failed to understand the discriminatory nature of his post.

So yeah fking hypocrites..
Still haven't had a reply from them yet..

Looks like there's been a fairly big twist in this story

If true, it kind of implies calling Webo 'the black one' could have been racially motivated as opposed to solely descriptive.

But also it makes Webo come off even worse.

Rather grim all around.

It is certainly a mess all-around; no one comes off particularly well if the new accounts are true.

I can only imagine a private full airing of grievances and mediated reconciliation (with any appropriate discipline on either side), followed by a public joint statement on said resolution, will put this to bed.

But knowing UEFA, they’ll just throw another stick of dynamite in to the blaze.
