I was cycling down Deansgate once and I could see this young woman walking on the pavement towards the road, intending to cross, but totally oblivious to any cars or traffic that might be there because she was staring at her mobile. Even so I assumed she'd stop at the kerb, but no, she just wandered into my path, so I screamed "WATCHOUT" into her earhole which scared the life out of her and made her drop the phone. Bet she was more careful in future.Cyclists with headphones has been happening for years. A family friend’s nephew was killed many years ago. He cycled into the path of a car. He was on his paper round. Terribly sad for everyone involved and yes, we see it so often, I used to ride my bike to work every day. Never once used headphones but the amount of pedestrians walking opposite me on their phones not looking where they were going was always a problem, I had to be extra vigilant and before anyone says about me cycling on a pavement. The path leading to the airport are shared cycle paths and that’s where I’m talking about.
Not as bad as another time when an old lady with a shopping trolley waited at the kerb, with no traffic but me in the cycle lane, for about 10 seconds as I approached, then decided to step out in front of me as if I was invisible, making me slam my brakes on and coming to a halt just in front of her.
There's some bonkers pedestrians out there.
