Is he not trying to improve public transport at the same time?

Have you tried public transport as a shift worker , many roles are minimum wage in London . Maybe they need to drop off children at school/ day care . It's a Tax on the poor no ifs or buts if it was a Tory mayor you would be up in arms

Shift work, getting in from outside London, you know the low paid cleaners etc who work in the NHS and many other industries , £12 an hour, so your first hour is to pay to get into work now, if your going off and not back in your last night shift will cost you £25 return, so first two hours of your shift have to pay for you to get in and out.

The UK is around 94000 square miles - Given we're the second largest conurbation in the UK, 493 seems pretty reasonable.

Your plan would extend it to all 94000 square miles at a stroke.

This was his idea, even the government slapped him down. The public transport is abysmal, and getting worse, not improving.

It could take up to 3 hours on public transport to cover what would take 20 mins in a private vehicle. Add that up either way to your working day, and say goodbye to your life.

It's also funny how he stated that he could not use public transport because he couldn't get to work in time. Somewhat ironic, don't you think ?

The trouble it’s the Manchester plan was that each council had certain areas that didn’t meet pollution levels, so rather than target those they just did the whole area because all you would do is push everyone into other roads etc. There was one route through GM from north west to south east that you could actually drive without paying, can you imagine the gridlock on that route once it was noticed! I’m no big fan of Burnham but at least he wanted to bring in a bin chargeable system or so he’s led us to believe it was the government pushing for it, as we all kniw we aren’t London and there isn’t a tube system and the metro link just doesn’t connect the right way to get to places.
id say if he brought in a £5 travel card per day for use on bus and trams for 24 hours that could well get people on them more as it is traffic is that bad these days it’s quicker to walk!

Who said at a stroke, it could be adjusted, and the life of the polluting vehicles would come to a natural end over a period of time.
